This fireplace uses refillable widely available Bio-Ethanol fuel. The manufacturer offers Nu-Flame Bio-Ethanol Fuel in 1 Liter bottle 12-packs, stating "Our denatured bio-ethanol fuel is a safe eco-friendly fuel made from 100% waste right here in the USA. Nu-flame Fuel is clean burning creating no soot, smoke or hazardous fumes. Safe for use indoors and out, Nu-Flame provides a beautiful vibrant color flame and long burn time. Please note that Fuel is not included with any Bio-Ethanol fireplace."

Using this fuel allows installation of this fireplace anywhere without the need for utility hook ups or any additional construction, permits or costs.

Exactly right, this fireplace runs on clean burning liquid ethanol fuel and doesn't need any gas or electrical connections which allows it to be installed almost anywhere. Ethanol fuel has to be spcifically made for fireplace use. A good well known brand manufactured in the US is SMARTFUEL. Alternatively you can purchase fuel from the manufacturer.
