Your space looks comfortable and calm. If you want a bit more color, try replacing your navy pillows with something in whatever accent color you'd like (maybe a lighter blue), and I think nearly any accent color would go well here. You could also leave the pillows, switch out the area rug for one with a combination of neutral + accent color that goes well with the navy, and add artwork that incorporates the same color. Perhaps small paintings interspersed with your family photos? I had an artist friend make a few for me, inspired by my family. For instance, I have a painting of a deer that reminds me of my father, and a painting of wildflowers that reminds me of my mother, and I had them on a wall along with family photos. I love your windows. Airy, white drapery panels in between/framing them might add a beautiful touch.

Looks good. I would add some color with pillows. Also add some window treatments hung high to add some height to that side of the room and to soften the windows. I like your coffee table, end tables, and tv table-- but if you want it to lighten the look, you could paint those items white. Or add a white top to the coffee table/end tables to lighten it up a bit. The art work will help a lot to add height to the room, which I think will make it feel more airy.

I also think it's a very nice space. What makes you despair? I probably would reconsider family photos over the couch as I suspect a gallery of small pieces will be at odds with your desire for an open and airy space. I'd look for one or two fabulous, large, colorful pieces of art for over the sofa to finish it off. If you really want to display a few family photos, if they aren't too small (as in cluttered) maybe stack 2 or 3 on the wall between the windows.

Lovely room, but I’m not loving the rug. The color seems random and doesn’t add anything color wise to the room.

Thanks, Houzz Friends, for all of your input! This week, I swapped out the rug and added new pillows. Use your imagination on the gallery wall...I’ll add some family pics from an upcoming vacation.
