Need dining room redo help!

Hi all, i hate my dining room table and chairs! They’re just way too big and bulky for my tiny townhouse. My problem is my living room and dining room have no separation and i feel like i need to match the brown leather couches and brown end table in my living room, right? Like i can’t have lighter furniture? I need a table that’s like 66 inches or less. Any advice, insights or table suggestions would be appreciated!! I’m including pics of my dining room furniture and living room

Does your table have a leaf in it that can be removed? If you can remove it (and store it under your couch or a bed), I would do so...and move the captains’ chairs (with the arms) into another room. They can be pulled in when needed for guests. The table and chairs are very nice. Not all your furniture needs to “match,”. But it does need to work well with the other pieces. You seem overwhelmed by brown. Couches and chairs, wood, etc. What I suggest that you do is think about how you can bring more color into both rooms so that they aren’t predominantly brown. Your rug in the living room might be a source of inspiration. Pull a color...blue?...out of there. Bring it up to the walls in the form of art, etc. in both your living and dining rooms. Be bold! You are on the way to a lovely home!

My table has no leaves in it as in this pic, it is just too big! I thought about removing the end chairs but i have no where at all to put them. I live in a very small townhouse in NYC. Interested in selling the table and chairs and brightening up the space and incorporating more colors.

I understand! Space is at a premium! Is there any place for the dining room sideboard in your living room? To act as a media cabinet, perhaps? Moving it out to the living room might give you more breathing room in the dining room. Or, can you fit two of your chairs on either side of the sideboard, keeping the captains’ chairs and two side chairs in the room? Or...is there room in your bedrooms for your chairs? Just some thoughts. It may well be that you need to sell them and purchase furniture that better fits your space. But you have a good start! Don’t be discouraged!

I moved the chairs for now! It’s a lot better but i still want to get rid of it. What color set do you think i can get that will still go with my living room furniture but lighten up the space? I feel my table is too dark and i hate these big bulky chairs!

Before going to the expense of buying a new table and chairs....consider looking for a more colorful rug, adding pillows to your couches, and shopping your home for colorful accessories. Art that is vibrant in color. Lamps with colored bases. A tray, perhaps in a shiny metal or weathered wood, that you can top with books, a vase or box, with some color and texture. Consider a printed fabric for your draperies. In other words....think of all the brown as your neutral background and build on it with color. A table runner for your dining room table, with a large bowl filled with lemons or oranges would bring life to the room. You might even consider recovering your chairs, or even having slipcovers made to cover the wood so that they look like Parsons chairs. I think that art and even two buffet lamps on your sideboard will enliven your space. Yes, these things will add up, but I also think your table and chairs are of good quality and are in a nice style for your room. You can do it!

But what kind of art will match my frames? I dont to get rid of these ones above my couch and you can see here how close it is to dining table. I don’t mind getting rid of the 4 small ones above dining table and replace with art but what will go?
