I believe your kitchen is quite attractive. Were it mine, the one change I would make is the floor as on my monitor it reads pinkish. And, I realize that isn't an inexpensive change so I'd just enjoy it as is with many cooking adventures with your kiddos.

Just gotta ask: do you like it? That is the most important!

Personally, I think it is charming and warm. Looks like a family lives there sharing lots of happy meals together.

Are the cabinets yellow and blue?

I would strip the table and chairs to a distressed pine finish to lighten things up a bit.

I think cabinets in a soft what would be a better choice with your floors.

The cabinets are a very light yellow and the one other cabinet is a blue.

And yes I love it but it’s 12 years old now and I’m always looking for ideas to improve and freshen things up a bit!

Your kitchen looks great! If you want a little bit of change, I think doing a richly stained butcher block countertop for the island would be nice (similar in tone to your dining table).

I think your kitchen is lovely! The only change i would make would be to move the microwave to the blue cabinet and use the old microwave area as a shelf or put in a plate rail. My only reason for this is I am short and would have trouble with the high microwave - nothing to do with "updating". Some with kids like it high so the kids don't use it, others want the kids to be able to use it and do a bit of light cooking on their own when age appropriate.

I also think it's a nice kitchen. I agree with Beverly regarding the table/chairs. I really like the "keyhole" chairs you have and in her photos. We have those in our kitchen. It may just be me, but the blue cabs are a bit distracting. In time I would change the flooring.

Would anyone change the chairs? These chairs are so difficult to clean with all my kids gunk and stickiness getting all over them LOL

All I can say is our (white) keyhole chairs are pretty easy to wipe off.

With three kids under six, the last thing I would do is update the kitchen...let them grow a bit. I think it's just fine as is. Save your dollars and redo it when they are over 12. If you want easier chairs to clean there are many out there to choose from.

I like the golden yellow, charcoal and white color scheme.
If it were my kitchen, I would change the floor tile because of the pinkish hue and use something in a more flat non-reflective tile, and in a light-to-medium-gray color which works with the colors you have.

If your floor is Saltillo tile or similar, it can be stained to a brown color. I think that would be a significant improvement. A lot depends on whether it is in other places in the house. How much it costs and how easy it is to find someone who can do it properly depends on where you are.

I love your kitchen! I think it could serve as an excellent example of how to remodel a kitchen using the popularly available materials at one point in time without pushing over the line to "trendy".

The materials the previous owners used could have all been components of the "Tuscan" or "French Country" looks that were popular then, but they used restraint and what you have now is a kitchen that looks appropriate for an older house but has the conveniences of modern design. You've continued to keep the design appropriate by being restrained in your decorative accents. There's hardly anything more classic than blue and white pottery/china, for instance.

BTW, I tend to think of that floor tile as a classic neutral much like a warm oak or heart pine floor. For my old knees I would want a cushioned floor mat in front of the sink, and if that's something you would use that would be a way to cover up a bit of the floor and introduce some color and pattern.

This looks a lot more like an "After" kitchen than a "Before". It looks lovely and functional.

I love the blue cabinet and would be tempted to paint something else to match it. You could do the island base or the table and chairs just to carry that style note throughout. You might want to look at ruggable.com for washable runner. They come in many styles and colors and would give you a good looking, comfortable update that is low maintenance to add some interest and cover a bit of the floor.

Wow thanks for all the amazing comments! I like the idea of a floor runner especially in the winter when the floors get chilly. We are in westchester New York and can have cold winters! I’m wondering if some sort of blue chairs may tie in the clue from the cabinet?

Do you have two ovens? Lucky duck! I think your kitchen is lovely. The only thing I’d have a hard time embracing would be the cabinet colour with the floor colour. I like the dark cabinet though! If it were me, I would have the cabinets painted. Perhaps a light, warm, grey? But painting still can be pricey, and I don’t dislike it the way it is. That’s just the one thing I would consider changing.... when the kiddos are a bit older...

Love your kitchen. Were it mine, i would move the kitchen table a bit away from the island. That's just a quirk of mine, though. Charming kitchen, through and through. Spend the update money on a weekend away!

Forgive me, but I'd want a neutral light kitchen- paint the yellow cabinets to a shade of white, as well as a lighter countertop if budget allows.. I like the rustic look of the floor. Add a runner rug. Does the house have a blue accent color flow within it? If not, paint the blue cabinet to a darker neutral, SW brindle fawn (Paint is less pricey than quartz countertop or new floor)

Does it have cookies? Absolutely delightful kitchen and I love the idea of a runner. If the chairs are a pain to clean,replace them. What I would not do is paint the cabs. They look flawless.

Honestly, I love our kitchen, looks so cozy and warm, so lived-in. The only thing I would change are the floor tiles. I would opt for wood look porcelain tiles -- practical, durable, easy to maintain, and beautiful. There are many options in mahogany, redwood, natural or salvaged wood. Looks nice, but understand after 12 yrs may want something new. Negative of buying high quality items - still in good shape but tired of looking at them.

If really want something new, would change either floor, backsplash, or light fixtures.

Your kitchen is pretty and best of all clean. I would use a round table in the rustic pine that someone else mentioned. Everything’s too rectangular. Then use accessories to bind the colors together.

So the table is actually a built in and attached to the cabinet so I think it’s going to stay for now LOL

I like your kitchen ..I would lighten it up by painting the dark gray furniture white ..and take that heavy table and chairs out. It makes it look too heavy, dark ...oppressive ...to my eye . But if you like those dark colors ...then change the lights ..start with something easy like the light ...

I like rug #4 the best, as it will give your blue cabinet something to relate to, color-wise, and tie it all together a bit.

What a gorgeous kitchen. I could live with that a long time. Except the tile. I moved into a house with that tile in the bathroom and disliked it soooo much. I was told later it was expensive, but it is not a look we liked at all. It was pink in our house. My husband and I tore that out as soon as we got the chance.

What a very attractive kitchen- not cookie cutter and nicely done. The runners are nice, but none of them is calling - so to speak. ( Keep looking?)
