Heavy May rains. Seen it all now.

Record amounts of rain for the MONTH fell in one day in the bay area. It was a soaker..not that sprinkles stuff we get in May every few years, but once in a lifetime wipers on second level speed rains-lol.

How did it hit the southern parts..or far northern?

Not much more than a sprinkle in Orange County. Less than 1/2 inch where I live.

A half inch is pretty good. Hayward has had 3/4 so far. With more rain Saturday and Sunday and Tuesday and Wednesday to come if it holds up.

Largest Bay Area totals is over 5" in Solano county. Dang, must be near Maui!

Reportedly, Fresno got .73" this last rain, which, if correct, is quite a bit of rain for us. We are due for two more rounds of rain, so I wonder how much we'll end up getting.

I expected our usual teaser storm here in So. Calif., but it actually was measurable rain, a real boost to any spring planting. Sprinklers off! More due Sunday.

Wild and crazy! Every year around now, I tease folks, because every year when it rains in May, someone says "this NEVER happens! " But this REALLY never happens! Not just rain for several days, but very cool as well. Is this the year I have to deal with fungal problems?

Friday I pulled weeds, scattering seeds in the process. Today I bought lots of pre-emergent herbicide.

I just found fireblight on almost all my new apple shoots, which hasn't happened in about 15 years. As much as I love the rain, it's got garden drawbacks!

Rained all day today! We usually see our last rain in April and get very little til mid/late October! So cool and wet I had to make soup!

We've had almost 17" of rain this season and 0.56" in May. Yesterday we had 0.29", and it was somewhat heavy at times.

One year in the early 1990s I drove to San Francisco for Memorial Day and got caught in a heavy rainstorm and had to buy an emergency umbrella.

This month has been quite a bit cooler than normal so far.

Clouds and sprinkles in O C. Good transplanting weather. I have sweet peas and pansies still going and seeds are sprouting well.

I was in Utah. We had to nix a planned trip to Bryce because it, and the pass getting there, got dusted in snow that day. We packed for the expected 85F last week, but the temps ended up being much cooler and fabulous for hiking. We're fairly flexible and considered the trade-off a good deal!

Our gauge showed that a total of about .75 rain came down at our house while we were gone.

It's raining again. I always wanted to live in Portland, but I never expected Portland weather in San Diego.
