Entry Rug Mojo - Can’t Sleep At Night

This rug seems to be terribly divisive but I can’t seem to let this rug go.
(And also we are waiting on the mirror for the blue taped out space).
Yes! I wish I had that rug! there is nothing else that would be so divine!
Horrible
Totally Works Even If It’s Not My Thing

I like the rug and it seems to blend with the other one you have in the dining room.

Divisive how? It's pretty and I imagine that you like it. If you don't need a rug or mat as soon as you step inside then there's no obvious difficulty. Enjoy the nice colors.

I like it and think it fits well with the other one.

Divisive - some people have reacted like it’s the worst choice I could make. Losing my confidence
  • 7 years ago
This feedback is awesome! Thank you!!!
I like it, and I like it there.
I just wonder if it’s a bit big for the space.
    Beautiful rug!
And if anyone is still reading the comments - what colors do you see and do you think any one color dominates In A big way
  • 7 years ago
It's only divisive if you and your family disagree about it. The world would be a pretty dull place if we all decorated our homes to suit the neighbors. Keep it and enjoy it.

I would say green, but every monitor is different. I love that it has a mix of colors

and you will be able to change up accessories (with different colors).

It is probably a bit too pastel colored for my personal taste, but I think it looks good with your other furnishings. I do think it is just a bit too long for the space and is crowding the console.

Let me guess, your husband and/or opinionated teenager are the ones who don't like it! ;-)

Do you use this door daily and what is your climate? Depending on your answers, an entry rug with an off-white border might not be the best choice.

You are a riot- I love your poll answers. I see mostly green/gray and I think it's lovely but I also do think it's a tad big. I don't want to take away your joy because otherwise I think it's a lovely rug.

Wait until the mirror is in to decide on the rug. The pattern is a bit tribal, the colors are not. I think the mirror will pull it together. I would remove the stool/basket in the corner.
The two dominant colors I see are the off white and orange.

Ok my Mom is the arm chair critic and she said it’s so orange that I should slip cover my blue couch - in a totally different room - orange. She hates orange with a passion so this amounts to the ultimate insult. Thanks you for seeing the variety I see!
I’ll think about the size but honestly I think the size looks right in person.

If the size is a little big, it's just that a little big. I can see 4 people at the front door,

2 guests and you and hubby. Lots of room for all 4 of you when receiving or saying goodbye to guests. It's your house, not your mother's. Too bad if she doesn't like orange. Come on, put your big girl pants on LOL

I like it. I’m sure my very contemporary home & furnishings & art are hated by some of my “Shabby Chic” loving relatives & friends who love over the top “ glitzy “ decor but I don’t really care ... I buy what I like, I don’t let others’ tastes influence my choices. I’m the one living with it.

It is the lightly trafficked front door - the mud room door gets used most of the time.

Still loving it, and it seems to compliment your flooring.

Nice colors & the size looks good, better than some dinky rug.

Ok I think we’ve established that the rug is a sane choice based on the poll and your comments! I’m pretty excited about it now and love the point that I can pivot many colors off of it.

A colorful, dynamic rug is a good option for this “room” which otherwise only has that one short wall to inject personality, right? And many of these colors repeat themselves in other parts of the house.

There was a comment about getting rid of the green basket. No sweat it’s a left over. What would you do if anything on either side of the door?

The console table and the bench are for keeps though. Many reasons landed me on those choices.

I have to say Mom is often right about stuff so I had to ask you guys to be sure. (As I type, Mom is sending my all cap texts to save me from myself and my ORANGE rug.)

    Thanks Angel 18432!!

Your welcome, you just needed a little push from us all.

I'm not into orange myself but see nothing wrong with this rug which has just a bit of soft orange, certainly nothing that screams at you. It looks great against your floor. Just remind yourself that mom does not live there, and anything more than a gentle hint from her would seem like too much. You're a grown woman who is allowed to follow her own taste.

Tell your Mom you were inspired by the colors of a Canadian or New England autumn ;)

Had the same issue when my sister didn't like my new rug choice, but I went back to it over and over, and love it. You do what speaks to you!

From the newer pix, the rug honestly looks the right size. Initially it looked like the garden stool was on it but in the later pix there is clearance.

I say you are good to go. (and the orange is a mere accent color:).

Orange is not the first color that pops out when I look at the rug. Orange and blue are also complementary colors, so your Mother is being a bit dramatic!

It looks like you shifted the rug towards the door just a bit, which works much better. If you love it, keep it!

Your mother needs to be teased a bit. I would buy a cheap blank artist canvas from wallmart, paint it bright orange and hang it in your dining room!

Chispa - that’s hilarious and I have to do it!

Ingrid - Glad to hear from a not so hot for orange person that it isn’t over powering.

Yes, I did shift the rug after the size comments.

When I first saw the rug, the blue-gray in the star pattern on the border was the thing that registered with me, in an appealing way, so when I read that Orange was the problem, I had to do a double take. Count me as another person who never noticed it (and I am not a big fan of orange either). If this is an old, handmade rug, I would guess that the areas that are orange-ish today were originally some shades of red. The red colors in many rugs of that type are highly susceptible to fading with sunlight exposure, and it doesn't take long. Red evidently fades more than most other colors. This information may help your mother come to terms with the lifecycle of this rug. Or maybe not!

P.S. Since I liked the star border of the rug, I appreciate that the sculpture on the table where you will hang the mirror sort of picks up on the angular-star thing.

This pic reminds me of your space a bit. I think it looks fab.

It's gorgeous and is causing me a slight bit of rug envy. Use it and enjoy!

Love the rug and keep it there. I definitely wouldn't change it if I were you because of a few people. It's appropriate and quite beautiful to me.

I am not a orange person either, but it works well here. I laughed at the orange canvases suggestion & hope you do it and post a photo here for is to see !
