Curtain Help! Pattern or Plain?

Hi everyone! I’m in great need of choosing curtains for my living room. We have a big bright window so it’s hard to see exact colors, but our couch is gray/blue, walls are gray, trim is white. We renovated our home and it’s modern with a hint of a nantucket coastal feel.

Do I choose a pattern with neutral color or something bright and bolder? Or no pattern? I don’t have any throw pillows yet so that will he added later to tie it all together. The rod will he changed to match the barn door-nickel and more modern. The coffee table is a place holder for now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you, Jan. We are leaving the couch there and adding things to the fireplace space. We have limited walls so our TV is facing the couch. I appreciate that feedback, maybe no curtain at all! I thought it would be too plain without it but that might work! I also thought about a larger rug also. Our couch is very long so it’s a challenge finding one that we like that extends past the couch on either side.

You can have a great broadloom made into any size area rug you need. Cut and bound to the inch. Patterns abound, as do textures. You appear to need at leas a nine by 12 rug.

Put the "interest" in other places. Pillows, art etc. Your sectional configuration limits the selection for a cocktail table too...........: ( Just one reason the two chaise configuration never really works well. And you need lighting.....standing lamps, or side tables for table lamps.

I’m fairly new to posting, but I’ll try and add the thread to other areas and also edit my spelling errors.

We have a 9x12 area rug now. We can fit a 40” coffee table between the two chaise lounges. We have a very large space and dividing into 2 sitting rooms. Custom rugs can get very expensive, but we will consider that in the future. Working on decor and filling our spaces :)

Just keep THIS thread going. Don't start another. Just put more pictures other question in the comments here. Along with more pictures of the spaces. PS a ROUND cocktail table far better.

And don't "fill space" ..............post those spaces.

Best is a dimensioned drawing of the entire space, and upload it. Along with the actual sectional inches. I'll eat that rug if it is in fact 9 x 12 : ) Looks 6 x 9 in photo

A custom bound piece of carpet it a good value. A lot of bang for your buck.

I happen to like drapes in spaces especially simple modern spaces they soften the look add some texture and in your case could also help with light when watching TV I would choose a gray to match the sofa but in a linen fabric with a bit of texture then add some pillows in colors fromthe rug . I like the rug s colors I think you need that in the space maybe just do two to make it work . I do agree a round coffee table wold be a good choice with that sofa. You need lamps for sure and you might eventhink about pulling the sofa away from the window and adding a sofa table behind wide enough to fit all along the back so you might need 2 then put the lamps on there it will also give you a spot for a drink and then you would not need endtables.I think the space could use some wood and a good place is for the coffee table and the sofa table . Pull the sofa roward far enough to allow the drapes to hang nicely and it gives a very nice backdrop to the lamps and sofa table. You have lots of space from what I can see.

I like curtains too!. Just not lopped in half : ) by a wall of sofa. When raised partially, she has a Silhouette/ Nantucket shade that resembles a roman shade! Nothing wrong with that .

I have the same question. My window is about the same size and the room gets lots of sun. Drapes or a blackout shade are a definite need.
I don't have nice trim around the window, so it's pretty bleak looking w/out something to soften the edges.
I have to go with function/comfort within my given space over the best looking design. But it sure would be nice to have it all!
I'm considering white drapes (but would need good lining) or a very light blue pattern.

You could consider other window treatment options. Just use a valance, with or without side swags over a shade - it will soften the window and sofa won't cut it in half. Or consider a Roman shade with a valance or cornice top.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Could you provide a photo of the suggestions you made with a valance, or another piece that doesn’t split the sofa in 1/2? I would simply like something for decor purposes, but maybe it’s not needed?
