Help ID Hybrid Tea/Grandiflora? :)

This rose was sort of inherited about 4 years ago. Some neighbors moved and gave it to me. It had been in their garden for a while, but I have no idea of how long, if it was fairly recent or a long time.

It gives me these enormous, luminous whitish blooms. They have pinkish or grey undertones, depending on the weather. It has the loveliest foliage, is pretty Disease resistant, doesn’t mind the heat although the blossoms will singe on the edge in the very hottest parts of summer.

In this mild spring weather, it has been very pale, almost a grayish white. Usually it has pinkish, pearlescent edges. I guess it takes the heat to bring that out a little. I had tentatively identified it as ‘Moonstone,’ but that was sort of just a shot in the dark. It does resemble Moonstone, though. I have always referred to it as my “opal” Rose, because that’s what it looks like to me. Almost iridescent.

I don’t have a very good picture of it with the pink coloration, but I’ll post what it looks like now. It is hard to get a good picture of it because even though the petals have a lot of substance, and are heavy, it damages very easily, so it usually has either insect or sun damage, or both.

It will usually bloom in a cluster of three large blooms or one single, slightly larger. The Japanese beetles love it do death. Almost literally.

Do any of you know what my rose could be? I really, really like it, and I would like to know more about it. Thank you!

(also, I know that I really need to move that peony behind it. Sigh. Too much to do in the garden!)

Your mention of gray undertones makes me wonder if your white rose might technically be classified as a lavender or mauve (that ages white...) Maybe something like Stainless steel ?

My first thought was Stainless Steel too, although your plant looks nicer than my SS ever did.

BenT yes the lovely foliage in these photos is precisely what made me hesitant whether this is SS! ;)

dillybeansown I just read your text above saying this rose is usually more pink Blue Girl is a popular commonly found rose and Is more healthy/vigorous than SS.

Both Sheer Bliss and Stainless Steel are really good suggestions! SS is probably the closest match that I’ve seen. I had thought about it, but I guess I hadn’t looked closely enough at it. After examining photos on DG and HMF, there are some shots of SS that look just like my rose. Others give me a good bit of hesitation, though. Are the ruffle petals that I see in some pics of SS indicative of the variety? Mine usually does not exhibit ruffles like that. The fat, greenish buds with the sepals turned down are a dead ringer. Some photos also show a fair amount of luminous pink on the edges. Maybe mine just doesn’t turn “Lavender” as often, fr whatever reason. I can’t say that I would have ever classed mine as one of the lavender/mauve roses until this spring.

You might have Pink Crystal. A pink/lavender sport of Crystalline. Very rare rose.

Can’t find any pictures of Pink Crystal, unfortunately. I agree the form of mine does look similar to Crystalline, although I think Crystalline may have a higher petal count.

Funny, I thought it would be easy to get an ID on what seems to be a rose with some fairly unique traits. I guess I may never know the proper ID, for sure! But I have two good guesses now. Thanks for the help, rosarians!
