"Sale" and promo prices caution

This is a general comment on retail practices, but also a warning to watch the bottom line rather than claims of sales and deals. I just got an email from Bluprint offering "an extra 30% off). This appears to be in lieu of the usual !5% membership discount. I went to go look and it as easy to see what had happened.

A kit I bought on sale with an additional discount recently had been marked as clearance and I saw it for near the same price a couple of times. Yesterday, it was $31 and change -- a little less than I paid. I was trying to decide if I wanted another one (it's a crib quilt and my boys are in the age group where friends are getting married and will be having babies). Had it in my cart to consider. This morning, the "clearance" kit is listed at full price and comes to $52 and change. I was considering ordering some of their thread, but I will wait and watch -- the price on that went up too. This is the one thing I have found about Bluprint that I do not like. I think Joann's overprices so they can do big sales and I try not to buy without a sale or coupon, but Bluprint plays more games. So just be warned not look at the discount or sale claim and watch the final sale price.

That's not just a JoAnn's and Bluprint problem. DH drinks diet A&W rootbeer. It's usually about $2.69 per six pack. Kroger had it on sale this week for buy one, get one, but the price per 6 pack was $4.99. It is said that Amazon changes it prices depending on who you are (they are expert trackers) and what everyone else is charging. Every company seems to be on the fine line of cheating/being dishonest with their customers.

I guess I'm getting old. Trusting the companies you do business with seems to be a thing of the past.

Agree -- I first saw it with Kroger and Amazon. There have been lawsuits over claims about sale prices and discounts -- I can't say I really got that for the most part because I look at the price I am going to pay more than the claim of x% off or BOGO. But this was the first time I had ever seen something on clearance be returned to full price. It is back down to $45 today -- which comes to $38 with the membership discount. Still bouncing around, but $2-3 in either direction is not something I would lose sleep over. The quilt kit I got is from discontinued fabric, so I'm happy to have gotten it.

Interesting idea. I don't mind posting here. The current price is showing up as $45.10 or $38.34 with the membership discount. It doesn't say it is on clearance now. When I bought it, the discounted price was $33.82. On Saturday and Sunday it was on clearance as $35 and change with the discounted price being $31 and change. Monday it showed up as $75 with a 30% discount.

This thread collection was something . I was looking at a week or two ago when the . sale price was just over $120, on sale and discounted from $210. Now it is on sale for $178.50 and membership discounted to $151.72 -- though they did send a $10 coupon that would bring . that down to $`141.72. II can see that as more a different sale price thing than clearance, not clearance thing. Either way -- you need to keep track of the bottom line. But I will be curious whether you see different prices -- other than not seeing the membership discount.
