landscaping / exterior help needed

I just bought this house and it was painted green less then 6 months ago. The green is staying for now. The roof will be staying as well as is it in good shape. We just painted the shutters dark gray since they were red! Thoughts on the gray...should door be same color?
Thoughts on plants for the front? I am ok with getting rid of EVERYTHING that is there. I prefer simple, even beachy. The mrytle trees will be replanted somewhere else.

Ok, you have to get rid of the single shutter. Can that wavy trim be removed? Your best investment would be a wide, inviting walk and a completely new landscaping plan. I don’t think introducing a fourth color via a new door color is a good idea. Try painting the door the dark grey as well. I think wide trim would help, but that necessitates removing shutters. Are they plastic or wood?

I should have said we will remove the wavey piece and the single shutter will get a matching one (it has to be fixed). what do you recommend for landscaping?

Agree with others, must remove the wavy trim piece and add a walkway. I’d also pull out the big bushes and add some color. Your local nursery should be able to help you choose plants if you bring a rough sketch with measurements. I don’t mind the dark grey but if you are going for a “beachy” look I think white shutters to match the trim might give it a fresher look.

Specific plant suggestions are impossible to make without knowing location.

I live in Atlanta GA. My soil is red and clay like but things seem to grow well.

I like the idea of a walkway and a bright white for the door. In the original picture it was hard telling where the door was :)

@Me Benson, before any list of plants & their name will be useful to you, you need to have ideas of what forms, shapes and sizes would be useful to your yard. Do we have that yet?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>I don't. I know nothing about this stuff! I do know I don't like big ... hence me wanting to get rid of all that is there now

Most of what is planted there is overgrown and badly pruned. All of what is planted there is WAAAAAY too close to the house. I would remove it all. You might be able to save those crape myrtles - they're not horribly hard to transplant - but they need to be moved.

@ Me Benson, getting rid of stuff is basically a decision you came to on your own before coming here. After you got here, it seems we agree with you. I gave you a lot of suggestions for what forms, shapes and sizes to put at various places. But you did not comment about whether any of those suggestions met your expectation, or were too far from them to be useful to you. With that kind of feedback, it's impossible for me o know if any further suggestion will be helpful to you.
