Take your daughter on a field trip to the paint store and let her pick a color. You'll be painting again in a few years either way - kid will likely pick some garish color that she'll get tired of, or the trendy designer color will go out of style and look dated.

I am pretty sure if you start by letting her choose colors and make sure she understands this is her space that she can do whatever she likes. There are IMO no trends for kids rooms they change favorite colors very often when young and she is at an age where she probably has narrowed that down quite a bit. IMO gray in a teen room would not be most kids choice of color. Why not go shopping for some bedding to start with. You will have to keep your opinion to yourself if you truly want her to have input.
