Another Hosta Overload

The day before we went to Fox Hosta Farms, I dragged my wife, daughter and son-in-law on a 2 hour road trip to Land of the Giants. They managed to last a couple hours (it helped having a picnic lunch and bottle of wine) while I wandered along row upon row of hostas (that's our car in the back) growing in practically full sun (he waters alot). Unfortunately, Jeff was feeling ill and wasn't around to chat.

I scoured the many sales tables which were grouped alphabetically.

Other people seemed more interested in shopping than discussing the merits of Sea Drift which I found for only 10 bucks. What's not to like - ruffled, corrugated, veined, vase-shaped, large dome-shaped light green leaves. Ken would say, "Just another green Hosta", but I quite like it and it's been around since 1978. (There's still one left)

But the Foxfire Bamm Bamm did garner some interest in the checkout line (only $25). The one I left behind was mostly reverting to a solid color.

I did wonder what this one was, but there was no more digging that day and I had plenty to do. Lovely shades of blue and yellow on the same plant. I got a few like this coming this year, so perhaps I will already have one.

And so I emerge victorious with my booty in tow.

My family packed the car with my purchases so I could wander a bit more. I must say, they did an excellent job. Sea Drift is the tall green leaf in the middle with Giantland Irish Mist, Giantland Skylight Bowl and Golden Meadows in the front row.

Overload is perfect word. Amazing. How do you find so many great places? I'm jealous. :)

Hey, if you bought Hallson's, you'd be 130. miles & 2hours closer to your daughter. You'd have TONS of hostas & customers to talk their hind leg off.

I want to go there the plants for sale exceed anything I‘ve ever seen at any nursery. I used to go to wade & gatton and they rarely had more than a few of any variety in their catalog. so amazing!

the new ones look so pretty sitting together in the back of the car..both of those nurseries are amazing..thanks for the posts..

Cool t-shirt and you sure a lucky hosta guy! Two hosta gardens in one road trip? Not fair!

I'm going on my annual western slope plant buying road trip in a few days. But there are no good hosta places. It's even hotter and drier there than it is here. Although one never knows what the nurseries may have in store!

That would be a great tour to see rows and rows of various different hosta. Looks like you may need a larger car for your treasures you purchase or another trip if the bank acct allows it . Great haul!

I have not seen that meme, too funny. A jar like that could pay for next year's Hosta.

So sad about Wade & Gatton's - perhaps I'm overcompensating.

I only have 0.5 acres. I think I'm maxing out on space this year. I had to get a little creative removing some lawn, some tall grass (right over the gas line) and making a little retaining wall so I can plant in spin out bags around Maple trees. I'm done trying to dig in that ground around all the rocks and roots. I strained my back a bit trying to get it all done and I'm not finished yet. Going to hire some manual labor to help out. Guess retirement will have to wait while I pay for all these trips and labor. I've discovered a nearby burning bush (tree) has roots invading one of my Hosta beds. Time for it to go too. Thinking about putting in a tricolor beech since it is fairly shady there. If only I could do some of this in winter, I wouldn't be killing myself in spring.
