Dining Dilemma!!

Help!! I’ve started & am not sure how to finish!! Neutral dining chairs & chandelier are staying..

Wainscoting? Wall paper? Paint table? Buffet? Modern china cabinet? Rug?

Design ideas welcome & appreciated- thank you!

No to a rug on top of the rug. Especially in this situation. Looks like the wall could work well for wallpaper. the Wall color seems really dark on my monitor. The rug looks like a pink beige. A different table and sideboard could pull it together better. Especially the sideboard.

The wall is Sherwin Williams Requisite Gray & the carpet is cream/white :)

Table will be painted once I figure out the overall look/design

    Thanks for your input!

Your off to a good start with the chairs and chandelier. changing the table will make a big differenc. Thinking your wanting a lighter look

I can use chalk paint to change the color of the table, but need to figure out the overall look first.

Paint the air intake the same as the walls.

Add art. Bright. Bold. Colorful. Whatever your desire. Everyone has different ideas.

Add a table cloth. I would not paint the table.

Paint the wall plates so they don't stand out.

There doesn't look to be enough room between the sideboard and the chairs. Is the side board a part of the table set? Can it be changed out for something not so deep from front to back?

Are the walls still drying? They look very streaked in the photos.

The rug looks pinky beige in the photos. Not really sure they go together well.

The rug isn’t pink, it’s white & the walls were painted years ago- must be a poor picture quality, sorry!

Do people still use tablecloths? Not really the look I’m going for...

Also, that is a desk in the background that will be moved to a different location- I’m looking for a buffet/sideboard or some sort of built -in if possible.

    Some design inspo below

I believe the streaks you’re referring to is just the reflection of the chandelier light on the walls..

    The inspiration pictures are beautiful!

I love the chandeliers in the top 2 photos.

I still use table clothes. Great way to add pattern and color, imho.

The rooms you posted are very monochromatic. Is that the look you are going for?

    Love those! Thank you

Are those chairs new, can you buy two more. The fours chairs look skimpy.

Your table is very similar to your third inspiration photo. I'm sure if you painted the base of your table a creamy white you would be well on your way to a very similar look. Based off your inspiration I would also do shear curtains and a mirrored buffet table. The style you seem to love doesn't have busy walls so I would actually lighten the walls to get that same look. Right now it feels bare cause you have nothing hanging on the walls. I would look for an interesting mirror like in your last inspo photo.

I added art to the back wall, buffet lamps, raised the chandelier a bit and added a floral centerpiece. If the light isn't on a dimmer than reduce the wattage on the bulbs. There should be no glare from the chandelier.

You could also do a mirror with buffet lamps.

Replacing a switch is an easy (less than ten minutes) and inexpensive (less than ten dollars) diy project.

I wouldn't paint the table. You need the warmth of the wood. It also adds richness to the space. I would beef up the curtain panels by adding one more on each side and hemming them so they're about 1/2" from the carpet. It will help them hang better. How much room do you have between the chairs on the side and the wall? It looks as though any buffet or sideboard will have to be pretty slender to fit comfortably.

I agree with painting the air grate the same color as the walls. Beverly's art and buffet lamps will definitely help finish the space as will a centerpiece. I don't think you need a tablecloth but a 36" runner to break up the wood and soften it might be good. You're off to a good start and just need a few finishing touches.

Im not sure a buffet is a good idea here, I know these rooms don't get used that often but if you put something on that wall I would do a NARROW credenza, You dont want people to feel like they have to suck in to get out of their chair. plus a crowded room doesn't look good either.

I would consider shears for the windows, to soften the room a bit, the gray is making it cave like and bringing the ceilings down, so anything you can do to add some softness would be good.

Here is a narrow mirrored credenza

My eye focused on your first inspiration photo. If you have room for a credenza, I would get one like these and then paint the bottom of your table to go with it. Lighten the wall color and get medium color plain drapes - like in photo. Stay with neutral colors. Your lamps and accessories should have sparkle. If you can get to Z Gallerie you might find some nice items.

C Marlin- yes, more chairs are in the process of being delivered :)

I love the mirrored buffet look! I’ve been trying to find one tall enough but also on the skinnier side.

The room is fairly large, I promise the pictures are misleading.

Really appreciate the input and inspirational mock ups!!

You are on the right track but I agree - don’t paint this table with the right art and mirrored sideboard you will get the look that you want and will like having the wood to ground the room.

I love round mirrors and have two in a nearby room that are similar to the above looks. I think I’ll need something more square above a buffet table to take away from all the circles nearby ...

What about a square medallion look?

    Or these??

Kelsey - I would suggest getting a buffet that you like first, then you will be able to gauge the size and style of wall decor, especially if you will be having lamps on the buffet. Here is a mirror that I liked for over a mirrored buffet.

We think some artwork or a mirror over the buffet would work really well. Here are some ideas for you from designs of ours:

I like the mirrored look over the buffets, however, I already have 3 large mirrors in close proximity to this dining room. We have an open floor plan, so you can see all the mirrors at once.

Hoping to find some artwork, or something else that will work for the space!

    Maybe a layered look??

6 months later & im still stuck trying to finalize a change for this room 😩
What about this art from pottery barn?

Looks okay, but do YOU like it or are you just trying to fill a space? Art should speak to you!!

I would paint the vent the same as the wall color so it will not compete.

I think the art is “ok”, I’m just trying to complete the room & am having the hardest time

I love something like this but wonder if it’s not fancy enough

It is okay, but not nice enough to go with the other things you have in your dining room.

Now that the weather will be turning nice, go to art shows and see if you can find something that you like.

We put a TC Steele copy along with 2 Dyf copies in our dining room. It opens to our living room that has some Monet copies and some original art in the impressionism style that I like.

I think that when you see your art in a room, it should pull you in so you can investigate further.

It should be something interesting to look at while you are dining and using the room. It could be bold like Kandinsky or sedate like Picasso pen and inks. It could be of a scenic place that you like or just jumbles of colors you would like in your room.

Peter Graham, Hyunah Kim, Kandinsky, Robert Holman have some beautiful abstract prints that are available. Scroll thru allposters.com and see if anything strikes your fancy.

My suggestion would be Navy blue and white drapes. Artwork with blues/beige/etc

A live plant in the corner. Have fun with it while bringing in color and warmth to your room.

Thank you! I would like to incorporate some texture on the walls, so this will be coming soon
