Another vote for American cherry.

My first reaction was a low grade Cherry - lots of sap wood - but then I saw the knots and thought, Knotty Alder... Any idea who made the cabinets? If you have the name of the cabinet manufacturer you could narrow it down even further.

Your location might help us guess! In the PNW, I had a house with similar cabinets. They were alder, which was very typical in newer construction there.

I don't think they are Hickory. I believe they are cherry.

Cherry wood, no stain....natural clear finish only. The doors look to be a "reversed raised panel shaker"....you can tell be the "stripe effect" when boards of solid cherry are side by side. (as opposed to a center panel veneer). Your doors are solid cherry. Like the previous guy said, could be rustic cherry as well.

Thank you everyone! So another question. If we don’t like the look of these cabinets but feel bad tearing out and replacing solid cherry cabinets- is it possible to stain them to make them look more modern? Or will they always retain the multi coloured look due to the different pieces of wood?
