I dont see why you would want to separate the living room from the dining room with a sofa. The rooms are already defined by the archway. I’d have the sofa facing the entry.

I have to agree to move the sofa to face entry, which looks very nice btw. What colors are you drawn to? You can add any color there. Pops of red would be really nice

The panel curtains overwhelm the space because they are what draws the eye immediately. I would remove them and leave the sheers. Move the sofa to the wall and buy art with colors that appeal to you...good time of year to visit art fairs and talk to artists about their work. I would also remove the dog cage from the room. You could add two chairs in front of the windows to give you a conversation area and additional seating.

The front hall table looks cluttered. That will need to be cleaned up. Which of these appeals to you most and why?

Low, linear chandy for the dining table + a smashing piece of art centered 5' above the floor. Sofa on the wall with another smashing piece of art 5" above the sofa. Replace the torchiere lamp with a good looking pair of floor lamps flanking the sofa. Remove the IKATs, sew the panels together so you can hang two each side of the bay in the dining room like below. Add black pillows to the sofa. Clear off the entryway table and hang a 3rd smashing piece of art 5" above it! The entry and living art can be as much as 75% of the width of the furniture they hang above, and the dining piece can relate similarly to the dining table.

You guys are all amazing! Thank you so much. I am definitely going to move the sofa against the wall, get 2 chairs to put in front of the windows, remove curtains, and add art on top of the sofa. I For entry way - would a bench work better than my console table perhaps?

I like your console. I might find a larger piece/ or multiples to hang on the wall though.

I think a bench in a front hall is more welcoming and functional. The console table you currently have there feels a little heavy.

Would your console table fit in the dining room?

Updates so far - I removed the ikat curtain. Will need to add another cream or a light breezy curtain. Changed sofa position. I like the art but I think it’s too small so will need to go one size up. Rug is too small - was only testing out colors. I also removed the console table. I would love a bench and a large mat/rug by the entry area. Any suggestions for that? Any recommendations for the living room? Thank you again for all of your wonderful creative ideas.

I feel like I want to move your sofa to the left a bit.

look at these pics for some other examples that would work....

notice the sofa two pics (art should be 2/3 the size of the sofa and hung a few inches above the back) . Notice the size of this rug. I also like something tall in the corner next to your window. a large tree/plant would eat up that space.

what do you think about this little side table next to your sofa? the blue lamp is a nice addition. You won't need that torchere in the corner if you do this. Think about hanging a beautiful fixture from the ceiling.

below, just look at how the sofa, side table w/lamp, a standing floor lamp, rug, and the little ottomans are placed. this could easily be done w/yours.

similar coffee table like yours. notice the hanging fixture and the way the table is decorated.

some other elements for your sofa. floor lamp and or the side table w/a cute lamp. larger rug. If you can't find one large art piece, do two.

accent wall, art, side table/lamp,,,,look at how pillows are arranged w/throw. chair off to the left.

another option if you center your sofa on the wall..two side tables w/art and lamps. a nice mirror piece over the sofa. you have tall ceiling in there so don't be afraid to bring in some height! If the art behind the table is too much, then just do a nice piece behind the sofa (but still do the tables and lamps)

i couldn't do much because it's not a full on straight shot, Tried to squeeze in a table and lamp on the left.

but gives you an idea. Remove the blue/white pillow and two others from the sofa. (too many) remove the pillows from chair.

if you center the sofa, remove the torchere and painting, , we can play around a bit better with some other elements.

do you have a chandelier in the entry at all? you could also do a rug here. And, I'd paint your door

This layout will work for your room. Replace the drapes with a solid panel in a deeper color.

So, your living room set up with similar to this. (No angled chair on the right, though).

I'd paint the living room and dining room one color.

I'd use the same drapes for the living room and dining room. I'd stick with a lighter tone.

What colors do you have in the other rooms in your home?

For the hall, I'd keep the bench narrow and add a large mirror over the bench. Rug will be determined by what art and other elements you add to the living room.

bunch of mock ups to give you ideas. I like this blue console because it plays w/your other colors. but you could easily do a bench, a mirror or art and a entry rug

We really think the teal chairs work well. We might recommend getting rid of the rug over the carpet, and to get a lighter colored coffee table. With all the things you have in the room the coffee table seems to be the only the piece that doesn't fit.

I agree that the table is a bit off but I bought it soon after I moved in... it was a very large expense from Pottery Barn so it is the only item I am not willing to change in the room. I wish I came here to look for advice from the start :)

For side tables - what material would match the room, considering my very large brown coffee table? I would like to lighten up the room... I feel dark side tables would be too much wood perhaps?

Hi. Here is a space with almost your exact style furniture, that looks great. Your table can fit in fine. Keep in mind, this room is sort of an updated traditional and has a neutral palette.

Note that there are just touches of the dark throughout. Adding small touches of the stain on the coffee table will be enough (example the art frame in this case).

People have posted a range from traditional to modern on here and you have liked many of them. You have only a few photos in your ideabook and all have traditional furniture. What is the style you want to achieve? Would you mind posting a photo of a room you love?
