Graph paper and pencil. Architect’s scale and paper. Nothing beats paper and pencil. If you can’t do paper and pencil, then you can’t begin to even think in 2D, much less 3D.

Beware! You don’t know what you don’t know. A floor plan does not a house make. Not unless you care not one whit what kind of gargoyle exterior that you come home to.

A home must be designed inside and out, flat floor and elevation, up and down, left and right, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Otherwise you end up with “that weird thing” with 26 different corners, 12 window sizes, and the giant top hat roof with nothing underneath it but money spent poorly.

So I already have the pretty well measured and drwn Pencil and Graph paper sketch. How or who can make it into a more "formal version. You know the thiker walls, the doors, the cabinetry all of it in a 2D or maybe even a 3D.....a drafting person?

Space planning all starts in the simplest way, pencil, pen, crayon so your kids are distracted coloring their own thing.... It's called a bubble diagram - basically a bunch of connected circles with the room name in the center. The bigger the circle, the bigger the room/more important it is to you.

The idea is to get that sense of priority, which rooms flow well from one to the next. from there you can engage an architect or designer on a consultation only fee to get a better idea. If my clients drew to scale, I'd probably hire them.

Below are 3 images of the progession so you get an idea. You'll notice the final sketch is mirrored for an overall better site orientation. Showing that because its a lot easier to flip bubbles than a fully drafted plan.

I'll tell you what, if you get a bubble diagram down, I'll do a quick hand sketch of it as an actual plan for free. Hit me up on my profile, these forums are to help people if I'm not mistaken.
