kitchen Reno. from scratch.

Hi all,
Tips, visuals, plans, advice, recommendations would be much appreciated.
Before I start my plan on the Ikea website.
I don’t have any design programs.

I want this to be a long time kitchen, thinking of classic, chic style.

Budget friendly, Ikea cabinets most likely.
Colour? White?

Changing everything in the kitchen.
Want to include additional outlets,
An island, pantry, lazy Suzy,

We just installed patio doors.

Might need to move window or enlarge.

An island or counter against wall. Or make it a half wall, to be able to watch tv that will be over the fireplace.

Lower half wall will have a couch against it in the fireplace room.

Ok, ok, I know my design is not proportionate.

That’s why we have folks like you all here to help people like me.

These are my measurements and basic idea.

Would love the input of you professionals.

Thank you sooo much in advance.

You ripped out that half done attempt at an IKEA kitchen that you were working on earlier?

I'm sorry I can't read any of your measurements. Get a sheet of graph paper and do it that way with exact measurements. Use one square = 6".

From what I see, you don't have room for an island with chairs.

    You have 118.5".

    118.5" - 25.5" (perimeter cabinets) = 93"

The minimum space between island and perimeter is 42".

    93" - 42" = 51"

The minimum space behind an island WITHOUT seating is 36".

    51" - 36" = 15". I doubt you want a 15" deep island. That's basically useless.

I don't usually tell people to get professional help, but looking at your post, I don't think you have the basis for a do it yourself design.

I am renovating my kitchen. and pantry/laundry room.

The first thing I needed to do was assess the space I had and determine what I liked and disliked about my space.

You need to do the same thing.

Do you have sufficient counter space for the cooking that you do? How much extra do you need and where.

Do you have sufficient upper and lower cabinet space? How much more space do you need?

Do you have sufficient food storage space? (Refrigerator/Freezer/dry goods) How much more do you need.

What things do you love about your current kitchen, what drives you crazy? ( I hate that you can see my sink from the front door. I hate that you can't open the pantry doors if you have a basket of laundry on the floor. I hate that you see the front of my refrigerator from the dining room, I love the peninula between my kitchen and dining area. I love the work triangle spacing of my kitchen.)

    Do you have a budget?

Do you have a realistic idea of what you can do vs. what you have to hire someone else to do?

Does your renovation budget match your plan?

Once you have nailed down exactly what you want and need and matched the list to your budget you are not ready to plan the renovation.

A good designer can help you figure out what you can do with the space and the best layout to optimize functionality of the space.

    Thanks for the tips.
Yeah, this was a first rough quick sketch on my phone, and just getting the measurements down.

I understand there is a lot involved.

I’m more interested in visions, ideas on what the best possible floor plan, etc would be, brainstorming, before I reach out to professionals eye to eye.

    @Green Design,

No no, that was another house. It did finally get completed.

We can't give you a best possible floor plan because that depends on YOUR house. What works for my kitchen would not work for someone else's kitchen. An L shaped kitchen works for my house but a U shape works for a friend of mine.

Hey his was a previous one of a family members. I don’t have up to date pictures.

But crown molding added to make it a built in looks, and the narrow cabinet had a door front with pull out spice rack,
Ceiling light done, and some other things.
