Traditionally, ceiling lights and fan lights help one see how to get into the room in the dark. Once in, dim them or turn them off and use table and floor lamps to provide task and accent lighting and to increase the warmth and intimate feeling of the room.

This was a project of mine showing the idea. I don’t love track light typically but it is useful in situations like this. I light hung to replace your fan will likely cast strong shadows because of the beams.
