I'd put three, tall awning windows which swing out from the bottom to eliminate the choppiness of the current window configuration. If shades were needed, I'd use an inside mount (3 shades one one headrail) but I'd prefer no shades at all. -- amateur

I'm confused. By 1 pane that is fixed do you mean single hung windows?

Are you replacing the windows on the one wall in the photo or all of your windows? If the former, then use the same kind of windows you have elsewhere for uniformity. If the latter, I like the idea of a mixture of picture windows and casements to eliminate lines on the windows.

I think OP is talking about double hung windows with the top window being unmovable. It is less expensive than two moving windows.

thanks the bottom pane is fixed and the top pane is a horizontal slider. the windows are old and need to be updated so i am looking at recommendations for new windows. i guess i could do the same but i like the idea of eliminating the lines if possible between the windows

Awning windows don't vent as well as casements because they don't "catch the wind". Perhaps you could more than three casements. Or use tall gliders or double-hungs, though both would obstruct the view more than awnings.

You might want to take a look at Marvin's website as the company offers many window types. The Professional Resources for each window type show the minimum and maximum dimensions.

Why not something like this with the awning part not so much in your view might even be nice to make them longer
