You can add another pit and tie into existing interior drain and have another back-up pump. During seasonal high water table both will be pumping at the same time. You can also add a back-up battery for each one in case of a power outage.

I just recently designed a few basements in a new construction development, not sure if it was a requirement by the town or homeowners requested that... they had 3 sump pump pits, one had the pump connected the other 2 were empty with a cover just "in case" for future use all they have to do is install the pump.

Thank you! We're having a whole house generator installed for power outages. Living in NJ, it happens regularly. We learned the hard way that power outages mean flooded basements :-(

I know I live in NJ also :-) Backup Generator is a good thing to have.

I see they started to upgrade the entire electrical grid, they have PSE&G doing work all over the place so hopefully will have less blown transformers and power outages during storms.
