Yes I believe only polyembryonic mango seeds produce fruit true to its parent. Here's an article below that helps explain it the difference between monoembryonic and polyembryonic seeds.

I have a Keitt mango tree and the fruits are a late variety usually August thru as late as Oct. here in central Fl. The fruits are quite large (up to 3 lbs) sometimes, also and they aren't round. the kents are smaller but they also are not round.

If that was grown from seed there is a very good chance you may never know the variety? Is it stringy or has very little to now fibers? Usually if you have to floss after eating a mango it's probably seed grown, though Tommy Atkins is one that comes to mind that's known to be somewhat stringy. It is one of the most produced variety for shipping for super markets due to its very colorful skin when ripe and also ships very well...but taste is not the best for growing in your backyard.

Baileys Marvel?

I was searching for Baileys Marvel and found some similarities in the size of the fruit, the only difference is the color is a bit red on Baileys varieties even though the Plant at my family’s home might not Have been feed the right amount of nitrogen to give it a nice red look.

That's right,he grew it from seed. Well, BM are descended from Haden..so it could be a Haden that was so sweet your grandfather planted a seed from one.

Unless your granddad would buy rare varietys..going for commonly available market Mangoes might be the one.

EVen with known varieties it's not always easy to make a positive ID. When I was a kid our neighbors bought three mango trees that had the best mangos I have ever, ever tasted, but nobody knew what they were because our neighbor thought the variety tags were the landscapers signing their work and removed them.

They even took fruit, leaves, and pictures down to Fairchild and they couldn't identify them, either. To this day no-one knows what they are.
