issues with Drapes

Anyone know what is going on with these drapes. Paid to have a basic pleated panel done. Has taken months. The drapery company has said they fixed it. I don’t think so. Why can’t they figure this out? Any advice would be amazing!

Thanks Sammy. Here are some more. Seam is shown on 2nd and third pic. They are lined and on traverse rod.

Looks like the fan folding was not done correctly. Too much fabric folded into one pleat and not enough in a couple of others. I can't tell exactly from the pics, but looks like a seam (or more) was placed in a space rather than the edge of a pleat, and they may have folded it like that to try and hide that fact. May be wrong tho cause it's hard to tell for sure looking at the pics and not the real thing.

Did someone install them or they were sent to you?

They were installed. Incorrectly at first. There are no tabs coming out of the rod left. May have issues on the left side, the problem with the pleating is in the middle of the drape, which appears to be hung correctly.

Like I said, the problem seems to be with the fan folding, not the hanging. I think I'd have them come out and refold them more evenly.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>Does refolding include sewing them differently? They changed the lining and said they redid the pleats. It honestly looks worse than before they “fixed” them. They have also gotten very nasty and argumentative as if I am responsible. A very frustrating process.

No, they don't need to be resewn to be refolded, however, the pleats on the right side don't look quite right to me.

They should happily offer to fix them or even remake them altogether if necessary, rather than get nasty. : ( If they don't fix them right and unless you got the bargain of the century, I think I'd see them in court, IMO.

Thank you so much for your advice. I paid over 5000.00 for them to do the master drapes and two other bedrooms. At first they put a cream, yellowy gold lining on them so when hung they looked gold. (Waited three months for my white fabric to come in). I told them to line with a color which matched the drapes, also we had this twisting in the large slider window from day one. Finally got them back like this. Now I know why I alway have done shutters in my other houses! Thanks again, I feel less crazy now.

Exactly. If this was a man’s custom suit we were talking about, and it was as ill-fitting and sloppy-looking as these curtains, you can bet any tailor worth his salt would do whatever it took to make it right. I mean, they just left the old chalk marks there...well, hopefully they’re just chalk :/ The reason one goes the custom window treatment route is to avoid these problems! It’s too bad the fit is keeping them from looking as elegant as they could. If not for the fit, they’d be beautiful; you made good choices in fabric and style selection. ;)

I’m going to go take a look at a similar pair of curtains I have in one of my bedrooms and see how they’re done. Brb.

Btw: Fabric has memory, and when you re-do folds or pleats that have been set for any length of time, you need to be extra diligent in removing the previous creases, especially if steam or starch was used to set the original folds.

Thank you Sammy!! I am hoping to meet with them on Monday. Owner has yet to see in person, after multiple invitation to come to my home. Fingers crossed! I am feeling a bit more educated now.

Ah ha, if they were twisted to begin with, then the fabric was very off grain. It's still off grain which is why they can't get it to fold right. Actually could be they saw the issues and couldn't get a good bolt, which explains the long wait. I think at this point, they should remake them. I don't see any way to fix them if it's an off grain issue. Possible it's just sloppy work too.

ETA, you could give them one more chance, but if they don't get it right, I'd demand a remake or my money back.

This is not the norm for custom. I belonged to a network of pros and they all did beautiful work.

I haven’t had a chance to go upstairs yet to inspect those curtains. I got sidetracked by kitchen duty and now I’m taking a little break, so thought I’d check in here. :)

Oh—did you check to see if the curtains are actually touching the rug in that problem area? It looks like it may be, especially in this picture:

P.S. You don’t happen to have any pictures from when they were originally hung, do you? And do you know what actual fabrics were used?

Before changing the lining. You can tell by the yellow tone with the other liner.

Ps. The drapes are not touching the carpet at all. Thanks!!
