is the stove top at 30" ? How far above the stovetop is that vent hood?

see if you can find a slightly larger vent. They also make metal fillers that you can use for the gaps.

If those gaps are directly over the stovetop, you can't use wood.

You could also look into getting a custom made cover.

I'm not sure how far above the vent is from the stovetop but it seems like a normal height. That little gap is more towards the granite countertop than the stovetop.

I tried looking for vents larger than 30" but smaller than 36" and I didn't find anything. And custom sounds expensive.

the proper space should be about 30" (from stove top to the bottom of the hood) Yours looks to be a bit closer, although hard to tell from photo.

for instance, in this photo w/the SS cabinet vent hood, minimum is 30".

if doing a wood hood, then it rises to 36" min.

perhaps split the difference so the gap is shortened on the left

For the new hood I'll try to have them install it so the gap is even on the left and right.

It looks to me like the hood is installed to far to the right could be just the photo angle
