Yes, Speckled Roman is prone to BER (blossom end rot) and the fruits often have pointed ends.

Looks like my Roma Pompei. A few of the early ones had BER, but the ones ripening now seem okay. Usually a watering problem - letting the soil dry out between watering, and it's more common early in the season for some reason.

Roma pompeii must be very susceptible to blossom end rot. I've been monitoring mine since the original post, and many of mine have BER again even though another variety of tomato planted in the same bed has no BER. Next year I'll stick to San Marzano for paste tomatoes.
