We're renovating the kitchen in our 1915 colonial revival home and need some advice on our mudroom/hallway that is part of our kitchen. Right now the main rear entrance is through a very narrow hallway We are thinking of moving the main entry door to the side of the hallway to free up some space. The issue is that this would be an outward swinging door and would open kittycorner to a new sliding door on a new patio. The slider will allow access directly into the kitchen but not the mudroom. Do we need the main entry door into the mudroom? Would that be awkward for new home buyers if we ever sold the house? Maybe we should eliminate the main entry altogether and enter through the slider alone? We do have a young child and do a lot of gardening so my husband is concerned about mud but eliminating the second entry door would give us some much needed mudroom/storage space.
