You will need storage. Wall unit, cubes to hide toys, sofa that opens up to a bed. Or get a sofa and some blow up mattresses that are kept in a closet till needed. They are made very well these days.

A basement room which can be/will be used for sleeping, even temporarily, should have an emergency exit in case of fire. Do you have an accessible window or another exit?

I’d look at ikea for the storage solutions. They have a lot of modular pieces (look at trofast) at reasonable price points that would give you the open and closed storage you will need. Do you need an extra sleeping space? They make a daybed which pulls out to a king. You can do pillows along the back wall behind the day bed for a sofa-type lounge space.

We are trying to furnish a playroom also, it’s 10x12 so not huge. I think we will put in a love seat, an ikea kallax single row shelf below the tv with bins (we have a few kallax already), a bookshelf, and I’ll probably add another ikea unit that has doors for some closed storage.

In small homes, everything has to be flexible and do double duty. In our basement family room we have been forced to layer bookshelves behind/beside the sofa, and the sofa also pulls out to be a bed. The cabinet that holds the tv also houses misc. equip and the extra amps we‘ve collected over time inevitably are used as shelving lol. Board games and the like we’re stacked above the bookshelves to the ceiling. Periodically we have brought in a coffee table that has wheels.

Storage boxes with cushions, beds with storage units underneath ...tables with overhang and storage underneath ...or air beds you can blow up when needed ...if you are handy ..you can built things yourself or go to any department store or outlet and get all you need in any prize range .. Make sure you have ventilation and have fire safety in place ..emergency exit ...it's great to have this space ...or you can always buy a tent and have them sleep outside when possible ..

IMO we need measurements and in small space storage is a must so I would start with that. Bean bags take up a huge amount of space so just think about that I have no idea what the 2 boxes are in yourdrawing either so please more detail and for sure measurements
