I can't find my cherry pitter!

I thought I was done with cherries a couple weeks ago, so I put it away in a place where I would be sure to find it easily next year.

Then I unexpectedly came into another flat of cherries. I've searched everywhere. I've pulled everything out of the cabinet I'm sure I put the pitter in, looked in every other nook and cranny even between the cabinet and the table in case it fell down into that space. I waited a few days to see if it would turn up on its own.

All this time of cherries are in my fridge, washed and stemmed.

I was talking to my mom yesterday, and she said, "Just can them with the pits in and they'll be easy to get out later."

Can I do that? Will the pits make the cherries too low acid? Will they take longer to heat up? Will they give me cyanide poisoning? I really don't want to go and buy another cherry pitter when I have a good one. Somewhere.
