Wall to wall carpet in bedrooms?

Hi all we live in a drafty victorian home and I would like to install carpets in the bedrooms - to make things more cozy this winter. I have never been into wall to wall carpet so I am clueless about how people do it in terms of design. Do you match all the carpets? So each room has the same carpet or can each room have a different color or style? and then if I also carpet the hallway should that match too. Not sure I want a mishmash of different colors and styles but I also don't want to be too match-y. My thought is to match everything and then put area rugs on top (?)

You can do different carpets in each room if you prefer or all the same. My last house they were all different and my present house the bedrooms are the same carpet. I prefer using the same neutral carpet in all the bedrooms. Being a neutral they will go with any color/ decor you choose for the room and you can change decor with no problem. I used ivory. The hall is the same as the living room since it is seen from the living room. Maybe since it is a Victorian you can do a patterned carpet in the hall. It is also a little cheaper to use all the same carpet. I would suggest you get the best pad offered. Personally I prefer a plush. For warmth you can't beat W /W. I live in a cold climate and in the winter you really can tell the difference in warmth between hard, just rugs, and a carpeted floors. Yes, you can put a rug over carpet.

Thank you - yes I was thinking to match would be best. Currently I have area rugs and I love them in the common areas of the house but I was hoping for a bit more luxurious (Sort of hotel) feel to the bedrooms.

I have wall to wall in our bedrooms in our current house (all the same neutral). I miss the wood floors covered with oriental rugs in our previous home. Fine rugs are luxurious to me, wall to wall not so much.

hmmm interesting - I have never had wall to wall and I have honestly always hated it personally however I do like the look of a very nice berber style carpet and I feel the need to "modernize" this house to a certain extent. I love oriental carpets too and I have a few downstairs. Our bedrooms are pretty big so its hard to find nice affordable ones that actually fill enough space. I am really on the fence about this. My kids do NOT want orientals in their rooms - they want modern and sleek and they just dont appreciate the beauty of an oriental. Still undecided.....

Instead of wall to wall, why not consider using the wall to wall carpet to make custom sized rugs for the room. You'll have more coverage of the floor and you won't ruin the floors with the tack strips that have to be nailed into the wood floor. Also you can have different selections in the rooms.

The room on the left has a standard sized area rug and the room on the right has the custom sized area rug.

Carpet has come a looong way. I would stick with 1 neutral style. For a luxury look go with something very low pile with a textural pattern.

Love Beverly’s idea...if you want flat modern rugs you can have the edges bound...if you choose a lush shag...no binding needed...you can also get great prices on remnants...high end carpet remnants are some times 50-75% off

Carpets are not more luxurious option compared to rugs because you cannot clean under the carpet. For luxurious feel go with large silk rugs. (They don't have to have oriental patterns.)

The difference in price between large area rugs and carpet cut to size is mainly price and the option for a custom shape....not the least being you can replace the cut carpets with new fresh ones 4-5 times for the cost of a good area rug....and altho the good area rug may last a lifetime ,if you move you may never have a need for so many good oversized rugs again..

Do it if you’re not ready to invest in all the work needed to fix an old Victorian. I’d match at least the kids rooms. Yours can be more luxurious in quality and pattern. 100% wool would be a big investment, but worthwhile.
