Are you quilting this weekend? August 2-4

Hello Quilters! Are you sewing or quilting this weekend? I am hoping to get back to my sewing room. We had Sami here for a "sleepover" on Wednesday night. We always have the girls all day on Tuesday and Thursday, so this is one tired grandma. They will be gone for vacation next week and then Sami will start all day Kindergarten on the 14th. We were running out of time for the sleepover.

I have a quilt kit that I have been working on between other projects when I just feel like sewing something. All the components of the blocks are sewn, and now I'm assembling the blocks in groups of three.

What are your plans for the weekend?

I sure hope to get some sewing done! I had planned to do some today, but plans changed. Want to get started on this months list of goals (tried to start a thread but it didn't 'take' so gave up). I have 10 more book bags to make. Seems to go quickly after measuring and cutting. Also the BOMs for this month. Anyone know if there will be one here?

I haven't seen the BOM yet, but I too have time this weekend to quilt and I'm anxious to work on a new BOM. I plan on finishing the border on my dragonfly/beetle quilt I set aside a few months ago and I found a stack of 5" tropical batik squares that I have no recollection of purchasing or getting as a gift. So I decided to just sash them with white tone on tone fabric and make a lap quilt just for fun!

Donna, I can understand your kind of tired!! We thought we were having our granddaughter starting Sunday, but the other grandparents get her until Wednesday - then we have Wednesday until next Sunday, so I will have some time to sew. I cut 8 more blocks to enlarge a top I put together at the spring retreat. It was square and I think a rectangle will be better! I sewed the HST last night and am trimming them and will hopefully get them put together. Tonight I am baking (crazy because it's too hot and we don't have AC!) but it needs to get done. I am sending 6 dozen cookies with DS & DIL for their week on a houseboat at Lake Powell with friends. If weather holds out, I need to get some yard work/gardening finished, too.

If memory serves, no one signed up for the August BOM.

We are so into recovery mode here, I can't find time to do anything or I would offer.

DH had his melanoma surgery on Monday. One daughter and her husband have been here all week helping with the nursing. But they left yesterday. He is doing quite well, but looks like he had a round with Ali and lost.

Theresa, Thank you for the update. I've been thinking about you and your DH. Take good care of yourself and prayers continue for you both.

Thank you Sharon. I was not cut out to be a nurse but I am doing it. And there have to be daily visits to the health care clinic for dressing changes etc. Lots of driving across town.

Theresa, I’m so happy the surgery and recovery is going well. The aftermath of surgery on the face can be pretty brutal-looking. Nursing is not my strong suit either. I’ll be thinking of you and wishing for a speedy recovery.

Theresa, glad to hear your husband is on the mend.

We spent some time this morning getting our garden ready so we can head out of town, hopefully by week’s end. It’s been very hot.

Didn't get as much sewing done as hoped yesterday. Our friend stopped by for several hours with their one and five year old daughters. The latter wanted to know if the Sunbonnet Sue quilt I’m working on is for her! It isn’t.

I ran out of a discontinued fabric for a big, complicated project I’m working on. Fortunately a quilt shop in West Virginia had some left, so now I can proceed.

    Happy sewing.

Best thoughts for DH's speedy recovery, Theresa.

I'm diving into some scrap bins and making some string blocks. Sort of a rainbow type thing with each block being a specific set of colors. I've done three blocks so far. Such as one block being all reds, oranges and pinks, one is blues, purples and grays, another one yellows, greens and goldish-browns. But the blocks are half strings and half black, making a pinwheel with 4 blocks. And the color combinations are going to change for the next 3 to be for example, reds, yellows and violets, oranges, yellows and greens, greens, blues and purples, and so on, changing them up every time I make 3 blocks. And I'm trying to keep the colors in each block analogous. (Next to each other on the color wheel.) These scrap bins just keep growing and growing so we'll see how many blocks I can get out of them. No worries if I run out since I've got a whole closet of fabric but I'll bet I have enough to do more than one quilt in scraps. The only thing I don't like is all these scraps all over the place, it's driving me batty.

Theresa, I glad your husband is on the mend. Hang in there with the nursing, this too shall pass.

I started quilting the quilt my friend pieced for Africa. Just SID and cross hatching. I might finish it later today.

No quilting for me this week. We are having our master bedroom and the two bedrooms we use as office and office/sewing room recarpeted. OMG, what a job to empty these rooms. The installers will move the furniture, but my office/sewing room is crammed top to bottom with "stuff." I will be so glad when this is over. I see now why older folks' houses often seem so worn. It's not necessarily a lack of money to replace items - it's lack of ambition and a dread of the upheaval caused. I can't wait to get rid of this stained, worn-out carpeting.
