Lol Kristine! I honestly have always thought that with that method it would be the potato that would grow and I don't get how it could actually work to make a cutting grow. I think a potato could be used to keep a cutting alive during transport though, say to take it in a wagon train or something so the cutting could get the moisture and such from the potato on the journey.

I agree I'm sure you just need to keep sticking them in the dirt. I think I had good luck because of it being fall and it must have just been the exact right temperature or something.

....and moisture! I've found this to be more important as I've rooted in very cold rooms as well as during the heat of the summer.
