What is happening in the rest of the house in terms of color?

Does the rug stay? If so, go with a lighter version of the blue.

If the rug is staying, pick up the a less dominant color found in the floral design in the rug and add it to the walls to bring the 2 together without being super matchy-just complimentary :)

If the rug stays, I would choose the yellow that is visible in the band near the outer edge of the rug-- or the take the peach that is on the outer edge of the yellow. Both of these colors would be much warmer for the room than the current pea green. I've lived with both colors and I love then both! They can really warm up your room and will make your furnishings look much more rich.

Sherwin Williams Whole Wheat sw6121 is a great color as well as Sherwin Williams Hopsack sw6109 if you wanted something a little darker

If to be used only in this room

I would go with the light one. The room is too small to go with the darker one and the rug has a lot of the blue. I think the lighter off white with a yellowish hue would make everything in the rug pop and make the room appear much bigger.

The rest of the house has very earthy tones, lots of tan/almond color.

With these small scaled patterns and muted cool understones, I usually prefer monochromatic combinations, but here I chose the complementary colour pinkish taupe using the mathematics "colours from the brown family are in fact colours from the dark orange family"

Sarah; I would directly try to swap the carpets... the one under the dining table matches the walls we've seen on the 1st picture. could you pls check that out?

And the more blueish carpet will be in coordination with the warm beiges in the dining room...

Have you seen the app called ColorSnap by Sherwin Williams? It allows you to take a pic ( of your rug or other object) and then isolate a color from that fabric or object. That might be helpful for this or other projects.

I like Benjamin Moore™ 79 Atrium White or something similar.

It appears you have the green also in your dining room in that case; so that all coordinates room to room I'd suggest using a light taupe (the color you have on the bottom half of the dining room) but in a much lighter shade.

I used Behr Brown Teepee and I love it. It is a tannish greyish taupe. Neutral and goes with everything, and not too dark. Affordable too!

I would go with this gorgeous orange color then use furniture like in the picture to draw in the taupes and tans you have in the rest of the house.

A pale but sunny yellow would look great with that rug. I have a Behr paint on my walls called Morning Sunlight. It is cheery, but still close enough to a neutral to not be overly bright

It looks like a small living room - I think to open it up and make it light all white or two different whites (pinkish or greyish) the painting on the wall needs to be removed. I have attached a picture of what I think would look nice.

Do a blue close to the rug...white trim...the rug is beautiful.

I have that same rug, in my living rm and I painted the wallsl pewter tray by Behr paint. Matchs perfect. It's a grey blue color.

I would choose the light beige in the rug. Or even a shade or two darker. It will go with anything.

Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe for walls and Extra White for trim. The white is posted but is hard to see.

You could try Benjamin Moore Piedmont Gray (CC-690) - I always recommend that you purchase a sample paint pot to test it before committing to any colour and watch it for SEVEN days - you never know how paint is going to react in all types of light (morning, afternoon, evening, rain, sun)! The lightest ecru in the border of the rug.

I would go with a warm neutral on three walls, then a pale blue on the fourth wall.

I have a similar rug in my living room and I love how it looks with light cream / ivory accents, burnt orange , apple green. For the walls I used Crisp Khaki -Benjamin Moore
other options could be Spanish olive - BM or Smokey Taupe BM

I love the idea of a pretty grey with a hint of blue. Neutral enough but complimentary to most colors. Think it would look great.

I just noticed that I am about 2 years late with this but maybe it's time to paint again.

Are you tired of the blue or did you never do more than try it on? Maybe the rug should change.
