I think it is hung too high. I also think it would look better if you centered the table with the painting, assuming you have the space.

Top of picture frame should be at same height as top of door casing.

Perfect...now a pretty centerpiece on your table. The chandelier looks a little high but probably not possible to lower it.

However, I think its being out of alignment with the table might make me crazy -- could you shift it to the right and add a narrow storage piece or large floor vase in the corner?

Art on a wall, not over a sofa, should be hung so the center of the art is 57"-60" from the floor,. That puts the center of the art at eye level. This is how most art in galleries and museums is hung. It means that even when there are multiple art works, art in different sizes, a viewer can scan the room and every piece will be at eye level regardless of the frame or size. Over a sofa, the art should be about 12"-18" above top of the sofa. Most people hang their art too high.

NEVER align the frame with the door frame. NEVER.

The dining fixture does seem a bit small for the room and the scale of the table IMO especially since the room has a decorative detail on the ceiling that should be complemented.

Here is your room with the chandelier 30% larger and a variety of area rugs placed under the table.

I agree with housegal200 regarding 57-60 inches from the floor. It works nicely almost every time. However, for a sofa, I would want art hung about 6 inches above it. Too much space can look like a disconnect with the furniture and art.

Thanks, chloebud. I had the wrong measurements for over a sofa or piece of furniture. In those cases, it's art should hand 6"-12" above the tops of the furniture so they connect as you point out. I edited my comment.

housegal, I had a feeling you knew. :-) Truth is for years I hung things way too high.

Looks pretty good, but IMO it is too heavy a piece visually for your room and furniture. Light, bright and airy would be a better approach.

Style of table and chairs does not go with the style of chandelier IMO.

If this were a living room with lower furniture, the height would be fine. In a dining room with high-backed chairs, the frame is in danger of being damaged by chair backs. That is the only reason I'd suggest raising it a few inches. BTW, you can ignore the advice never to align a picture frame with a door frame. There are such a vast array of interior architectural styles, periods, and scales across the country and the world, that a rule like that is unnecessarily limiting. It may be useful in some situations, but certainly shouldn't be considered universal.

What a pretty room!

It all looks beautiful but I think the art is too visually heavy to hang alone. A buffet or sideboard under it would ground it.
