Bare wall. What should be there?

We recently sold our old Queen Anne dining furniture and updated. But we’re really perplexed as to what to put on the wall. It’s an open floor plan with kitchen to the left and gathering room beyond that. We’re open to all suggestions. Thank you so much .

I would put a painting there...not too small (oops, missed Beverly's post. Like that). Also, try your chairs turned 1/8th of the way around the table so the backs are angled toward the corners of the rug.

We would really like to have something quite colorful. But don’t know what..
I like the idea of moving the chairs as suggested.

Art can be as colorful as you want.

Find a large piece of art you love I would never try to choose art for a client.

Olychick, turning the table a 1/4 turn was on my mind, but I think this table opens with a leaf.

Oddly, this is a case where the rug actually looks too big. Is there room to pull it out from under the console and move the table and mirrors with it so the table remains centered?

Beverly, 1/4 turn puts chairs (or table) in exactly the same position - where the next chair is around the table. 1/8 turn actually puts it in a new position, between where the chairs are now. The chairs can still be placed for everyday use (and even when extended with the leaf) with their backs to the corners (1/8 turn around the table). I'd actually prefer to not have a table leg run between my feet.

I’m no pro but ... perhaps place those mirrors over the buffet table, add varying height candlesticks (or buffet lamps) and then place a HUGE colorful landscape oriented landscape piece of art for where the mirrors are currently - add a painting light on a dimmer. It will give that space it’s own cozy intimate feel...when you want it to feel that way for special dinners.

Look for one large horizontal piece of art, incorporating the deeper blues from your living area. I agree about removing the sconces.

I would never have noticed that about the chairs and never read anything like that, so thank you.
The mirrors face the window to give the area more light.
We happen to love abstract art (really all art) and have mostly originals throughout our home. Probably too much on the walls but it’s so hard to pare down.
    We’re trying to decide between-
    1 large horizontal piece
    1 large square
    4 ‘matching’ or related pieces
A whole wall photo in b/w

Also well put a lamp on the side table for balance and maybe basket for texture under drawers.

One other thing I thought of:

2 floating shelves to display our collection of ‘stuff’ which is colorful

I love what Beverly posted, colorful and a great size. Your 1st piece replicates that; 2nd piece has squares/grid that your mirrors also have, which is one piece too many. I would say "no" to any more stuff and agree about taking the little sconce shelves down. It's perfectly elegant without them or any more stuff. eta: I don't think the blue painted walls really add anything to the room, altho it's a pretty color.

I like the mirrors. I would place them on the wall that reflects the best scene. The buffet wall or the current wall. I would like to see some warm colors in the room also. Looks really nice. Nice job! Yes remove sconces.

Should I change the 3 mirrors to this one?

I personally still like the 3 you chose.

I think if you get one large piece of art on the other wall, I'd keep the 3 mirrors instead of a mirror that will be about the same size as a painting will be (hopefully).

If it were mine I’d take the small corner rack away and center the console on the wall. Before hanging art. The corner rack is At odds wity your clean look but maybe it’s practical?

A piece of sculpture might be interesting there. Or maybe a display cabinet instead of the console, looks like you,ve got some interesting pottery?

Paint the return air vent to match the wall color. There doesn't appear to be enough space between the mirror wall and table top (should be 36-42") for chair scoot/sit space. I agree that the rug seems too big, forcing you to snug it toward the baseboards. Really, the sideboard should sit entirely on or off it. I'm not crazy about the mirrors, especially if they're doubling the kitchen. I think lamps are a better choice if drawing light over is the reason for the mirrors. I would rather have striking art on both walls and perhaps no rug at all.

    Analyzing your photos again....

Removing the sconces we all mentioned would be nicer, keeping the room simple and sophisticated. They are not needed.

I would also remove the corner plant stand, simple and uncluttered in this size space.

The rug is the perfect size. You need that size for moving chairs in and out.

I think the rug in this room is a great addition to ground the furniture, add texture and color and brighten the space.

I like your choice of using mirrors in this room being that it is an interior room void of any windows. Mirrors on 'either wall' that affords the best reflection or catches light from a window from any adjoining spaces.

Your console is centered on the wall, with it's airy design, and is well chosen to keep the room feeling light and functional too. Great balance.

Accessories color palette of blues, is a pretty spark of interest.

I'm sure your beautiful chandelier, when lit, is the icing on the cake to keep this room light, bright and interestingly lovely.

All that is needed is a large Artwork.

    You did an 'Excellent Job'.

I’m so thankful for all these comments. We have chosen a large colorful piece of art that brings in brighter colors.

The painter will be here in a few weeks so I’ll be going nuts choosing colors.

I really like everyone’s suggestions. They make sense and add to the overall design. Thank you so much .

I just found out that these mirrors come in for different finishes. Should I switch these out for white or antique silver? I really am trying to Lighten and brighten but I am unfamiliar with using this type of decor.

Can you return/exchange the ones you have or would you have to purchase new? If possible, I'd wait until your painting is done and the art is hung, then decide. I probably wouldn't do white, but the antique silver might be nice. What you have now does look fine, though. If you'd have to buy new, look first at rub 'n buff. It would be an easy job to lighten them yourself.

Yes, I can return these and also order new. I too was thinking the antique silver. (Agree about the white). It wouldn’t be so intense.

I really like the balance of color that you have now.

The console and table and the mirrors balance the whole room really nicely.

The antique silver is pretty, however, I think it would get lost on a gray wall so it depends on what color wall you may want to change it to.

And I think any other color you choose other than Gray, or a color that is too neutral, will work nicely also with the antique silver.

Hmm, I know I posted a response but it’s gone. OK well I would only consider the antique silver ones also. I agree with you. It’s just that I thought maybe the black on the frames were just too heavy for the room. I wish they were thinner and more delicate. If I get the silver I may paint the outside edge Of the frame in a black.

Oh. The wall isn’t grey. It’s the color the builder used to spray on all the walls. It’s ‘supposed’ to be white. We have a painter scheduled. Playing around with color ideas.
