You can probably grow a tree, but it will not be Cosmic Crisp. Apples like most fruit trees are hybrids that are vegetative propagated Typically cuttings from parent trees are grafted onto rootstock.

I too follow that development. You can buy honey crisps trees, which are one of my current favorites. It was maybe a decade before they let non-commercial growers get those trees, so I would suspect you'll be waiting that decade for cosmics, unless you have enough property to qualify for a commercial orchard (and want to pay the licensing). For growing a seed, you'll have decent heritage, but still with so many genes making up that trademark, odds are 10000:1 or worse that you'd get a "Cosmic", but maybe you'd get something better (or worse), but you'd have to wait 6-8 years to find out. And about then, you could probably just buy a cosmic tree. But it would be a fun experiment.

If you can find a Cosmic Crisp and can obtain a scion ( twig) and graft onto your own rootstock you will be in business. I don't know how extensive the patents are, but if just want one or two trees and do it quietly, you should be ok.
