That's an awful lot of doors for such a small footprint. Can we see more of the plan? Not clear on why you need a door between the mud area and the laundry.

the mud room and pantry are off the garage and that's all I have as far as plans from the builders site. the mudroom becomes basically just an area to come in and drop stuff before heading to the kitchen or the laundry room.

Make it one room. Eliminate the door into the Owner's Retreat. That's the wall where you hang up coats; store boots/shoes in a bench below them.

Please post more of the plan - is owners retreat the master bedroom? And the only way into it is through the vestibule off the garage? That is not a mudroom — it’s a pass through space. And even if it could be a mudroom you wouldn’t want to walk through a mudroom to get to the master. If the door to the laundry is removed you essentially have to walk through the laundry room to get to the master.....so, I’m seeing red flags and need to see the whole first floor plan please.

The owner's retreat is the master bedroom and it was designed for the door to enter from the mudroom because my husband is a truck driver who works odd/opposite hours as me. The laundry room aslo has a door that goes into the master closet which connects to the master bedroom so we don't have to wake each other as we're coming and going. This also allows me to keep dirty/greasy clothes in a limited area of the house. We live on 5 acres of farmland so it's easier to limit the dirt to one area this way. I am considering a small bench next to the washer and dryer for sitting down to take off shoes, it is a 4ft space so does that seem sufficient for 2 people? This is the full house plan, however we did not do the optional drop zone because it seemed smaller than the 4ft area being left in the laundry room.

Can I ask what your plan for the flex space is?

Sounds like you know what you want/need, so just move ahead with your plan. We didn't have all the facts before your last post.

The flex space will be the office for our business.

Since the entry to the master bedroom is through the mud room I feel the wall should stay up between that passkey and the laundry because you don't want to be walking through a laundry room to access your master bedroom and pantry. Ideally I would have split the wall in the kitchen to form a doorway making your flex space part pantry part mud room and shifted garage stairs to enter into that space. But now that you have explained your scenario I think your best bet would be to speak to your architect and builder about doing pocket doors on the door from mud room to laundry and from laundry to master closet to free up space and eliminate all the swinging doors. The amount of swinging doors in such a small amount of sq footage is going to seriously eat up space and become a nuisance.

Your plan can work as designed but the mudroom needs to be much bigger and you need a larger closet. The inspiration plan shows a very small one. Yours doesn’t have one at all. You will definitely need to stack your washer and dryer and have the shut off accessible from the garage. And yes to all the last commenter said (sorry I already forgot your name). Some designs to consider with pocket doors and to talk over with your builder:

These are about the size of your current plan. The first shows a stacked unit with a narrow 15" pantry cabinet plus a long bench. Second, washer and dryer with upper cabinets and an almost 4' bench.

Other options involve moving walls and master door:

First creates a 5' wide laundry and 3'6" bench in a mudroom/hall. (5' is the recommended minimum width of a laundry room. I know you're considering a stack unit, but for future resale, you should have room for seperate units to be safe.)

The second shifts the master door over and creates a large laundry/mudroom and decent size master/pantry hall.

I think all of those show the space needs to be larger. Keep in mind aging in place (hall widths), adequate storage for farm life and just day to day living with coats and boots and that means more square footage.

I would suggest loosing 2’ of master bedroom space in order to gain much needed function.
