Late Boneset or Snakeroot???

Hello, I live in NW Indiana and have loads of these “volunteers” in my yard. Decades ago, this area was near a creek but has since been developed. Lots of milkweed also popping up. Researched but nowhere does it say that Late Boneset has very dark square-ish stems. They are about 4-5 feet tall now and have just started blooming. Does anyone know if this is Late Boneset or Snakeroot? Would hate to keep a poisonous plant around (Snakeroot) especially one said to have killed Abraham Lincoln’s mother! Thanks for any ideas.

    The white snakeroot being asked about is Ageratina altissima. Late Boneset is Eupatorium serotinum, and the leaves of late boneset do not pierce the stem like Eupatorium perfoliatum. For whatever reason, maybe deer preference, I have noticed a lot of late boneset all over the place the last few years. I think the plant in the OP is late boneset.

    White snakeroot is in bloom in the autumn. I wouldnt get rid of this plant either unless it is in a garden or you are near dairy farms.
