Thanks, both. That was my feeling too. I’m wondering how Pottery Barn thought this would work? It’s shown in all the pictures as a dining chandelier, but there’s no extension?! And if not a dining chandelier, what would you use it for?

For a lower ceiling. Are you sure it didn’t have a post?

@Flo, yes, no post :( I even called Pottery Barn to ask and they confirmed.

The ceiling would have to be 6’ tall for this to be the right height.

I looked on PB WEBSITE and the pictured it as you have it flush canopy to ceiling. Very odd design. I don’t think it is right for your lovely room. Hope you can return it.

I think it would be pretty in your living room if you moved it over there, Then get something that compliments it for your dining room. But yes sadly it is too hight for over your dining table with your ceiling height.

@Design interior south, I was also thinking that moving it to my living room could be an option. But then whatever light I put in the dining room would need to be super simple to not compete.

What is your ceiling height and your dining room size and table size?

This is a very similar feel but without the knowing the size of everything couldn't say if it would work

Ceilings are 9’, table is 77” x 51”, room is 11’ x 12’

And telling that the PB website just has close-up photos, nothing showing the fixture in situ.

I could see it in a bedroom or, as some people like, in a closet (I've never understood chandeliers in closets myself lol). But not for a dining room where it needs to be lower.

J it appears you have a mid century modern esthetic going on. Have you considered some lighting that would play into that more?

Thank you all! @Designinteriorsouth, my home is actually prairie style, but I’m trying to make a bit more modern. And I do have quite a few mid century pieces. Here’s a picture of the light that was originally in the dining room. Although it goes with the style of the house, it felt a bit old/tired. I’d love something modern but classic, pulling in the black/bronze tones from the rest of my house.

The starburst fixture would certainly echo the candleholders on the table nicely : ) .

J I say MCM based on your occasional chair, coffee table and dining chairs. Here are some other options that could work that are more transitional in style. You will have to open them up to see color options but they all come in your color preference.
