Paint colour is usually that last element chosen because you can match it to anything. What are the other elements in your room? As for window treatments, have you considered blinds? What type of window covering do you need for privacy/sun control, etc?

Really start with bedding and what do you find difficult about the color the question needs more info to help.

Rods are usually matched to hardware or furniture in the room. Curtains are often matched to fabrics or rugs in the room. Your pic doesn't show any of these so next to impossible to answer your question.

Hi all, thank you! I do not own the house, so I do not know the paint color/brand. I also can't change it because I have a baby and it's too hard to find time to paint! I have a small budget of $150 to cover all four of the 6ft wide windows/sliding door. Here's the bedding I've chosen for my daughter's crib that I ADORE. The other furniture in the room is white. I also need blackout curtains because my room quickly turns into an oven and is not attached to the central AC.

Its unfortunate that you cant find the time to paint because it is really the most cost effective change you could make for that space. Based on the info you've provided I would do simple white panels. If you have an Ikea near you getting them there will be the best quality for the price. I would suggest keeping the rods as neutral as possible as well. White wood or a brushed nickel or gold or black. I am not sure if it is the angle of the photo but the widow and the slider appear wide. 8'? you will need four panels minimum for each which will take up a lot of your budget.

Yes, I know it's such a pain I can't get this painting done - the room is 300 sq/ft and even the ceiling is this color, so it would either take me loads of time I don't have or cost around $2k for a painter. I'm going to try a white blackout curtain with nickel rods combo for now. Thank you all!

If you can get the white panels up and do some large art work the paint color will recede. For what its worth , not sure where you live but it should never cost $2k to paint one room. A single room should range from $300-600. Whoever you got that quote from is trying to rip you off. Best of luck and Congrats on your baby ;-)

Is the carpeting staying? What does your furniture look like?

Your windows are so close to each other, and to the walls, that I would suggest bamboo or Roman shades rather than curtains.

If you're insistent on curtains, I'd do a plain matte black rod, 5/8" or 3/4". And with the proximity to the other windows and walls, you probably need a return rod, also known as a wrap-around rod,

Another bonus is that a return rod helps minimize light at the ends.

If you have an Ikea nearby, I would get their plain linen off-white Aina panels.

The curtains are really a budget choice at the moment. My windows are 6' wide so blinds are a big investment for a rental space. A return rod is a must for the light/heat issues and improving baby's naps. I really wish I could do blinds though because it would make the wall space more usable! For as much as I love this space, it can be such a headache!

For black out you can look on Half Priced drapes. They have a large selection of black out panels. Again Ikea has black out panels and or liners. They also sell return rods.

The walls and carpet are good backgrounds…so choose a fabric which works with and doesn’t match the color.

I share the room with my daughter, and I also need a space to work from home so the layout of this space has been tricky to say the least!

You can find inexpensive rods and curtains at Big Lots. Consider adding color that works with whatever furnishing you will be moving into the space.

Here's a layout of the room - it is 15'x20' and has 6' windows and one 6' sliding door on the south end. I'm really struggling with this layout - we've lived here a full year and I'm not happy! I currently have the following furniture to place - 6' desk, 2 side tables, 6-drawer dresser, crib, queen-sized bed painted grey, rocking chair, c-table (which I work at most of the time) and a 3-tier rolling cart. I have no closets and I'm hoping to do a DIY shelf-'n-rod situation. The desk can go, but I truly am a creative person and I will miss it dearly (though I barely use it because the placement shines light on my daughter when she's sleeping - she's 10 months old). I really need this space to be split for her and for me. I don't care if I lose my workspace but I need to be able to have a good background when I join my daily meetings.

Elizabeth can you source some inexpensive shelves? As tall as you can find? The great ones about this space is its size! It can really be divided up. I think your saving grace would be to create a false wall using shelving to divide the space. Let me see if I can do some floor plans for you.

If you can get some shelves you can divide the room as shown here. The shelves should have. backing so there is a true division. You can wallpaper with self stick wallpaper the back of them or paint that to make it look like. finished wall. This divides the space into two 15' x 10' "rooms" I threw some wardrobes in near the door for closet space.

Another idea to make the division more sturdy for newly walking toddlers ;-) would be to use the dresser as a base for the divider and then place book shelves on top of that like a hutch. Did you say dresser was 6'?

Loving the layout, thank you! Do you think the bed will look okay in front of the windows? I’d thought of doing it before but wasn’t sure if I needed a full wall of drapes to pull it off. My ceilings have an arch to them so I decided against It. I believe the dresser is 6’!

Also I should note my rocker is quite bulky (like a LazyBoy recliner) so it takes up a bit of room. I have it in the lower left corner currently.

I think sometimes we have to make exceptions for bed location based on the needs of the space. In order to get both your desk and your bed on one side of the room division so that you don't disturb your daughter while she sleeps I think that your bed will have to go there. Luckily the windows appear evenly spaced.

I updated the layout to add a 4x4 Kallax shelf from Ikea - I think this will offer the storage/division needed. It seems like there's a big empty space though. What do you think? I also added a smaller desk - I have an a-frame Pottery Barn one in golden oak that I might switch out for space.

That empty space will be filled with a crawling baby and floor toys before you know it. Enjoy the space.

You could always move the rocker to the end of the shelving divide and angle it . That way you wont be walking directly into it from the door and it will leave the corner free for some hanging area for your clothes.

Update: I have been decluttering and setting up this room! The layout looks great and things are coming together. HOWEVER, I just found out that we are expecting another baby! What would you suggest for an updated layout with an additional baby sleep space? Also, I want to note that I enjoy playing with my daughter in front of the windows. Maybe there’s a way to switch things around? I’m also looking to add more clothing storage for myself, too.
