There's no point to an island that doesn't allow you generous space to walk around - 2' between the island and the wall simply isn't enough.

I like the idea of moving the entrance to the dining room down towards the cooking area - but I'd consider leaving your sink beneath the window, moving the dishwasher in to the left of it, and going with a peninsula that's angled at 45 degrees from the counter, and raised 6" from the main countertop to give you that island/bar feeling you're looking for...
...and move your refrigerator to the center of the 10' wall - and make it a counter-depth unit to allow for easy movement between it and the new angled peninsula.

i agree. we have a counter-depth fridge by necessity and it worked out really well. we also have a small island which i don't know how i lived without :) but one of my concerns was when the doors of the appliances are opened--was there enough room to stand in front and access what i needed without backing into something else?
i agree a sink beneath a window is the best location.

Code for walkways is 36", a 2 - 2 1/2 foot walkway will not pass code if you are having your renovation permitted. This thought would then eliminate the current layout thought.

I would consider moving the Stove to the same wall as the Fridge, since the working triangle will be shorter, and you will regret having newly washed vegetables dripping over the floors !

Hi Diva1, if an island is a 'must-have' on your renovation, then I would suggest switching your existing cabinets and eating area if the budget allows.

I am still trying to figure out the best lay out for our kitchen. I have attached an excel file with a few worksheets of different layouts that I worked on. Looking for any suggestions or concerns. Right now, I am thinking layout 2 or 6 might work but still unsure.

Hi diva1, sad to know you're still in the planning stage :(

It comes down to lifestyle, do you need two dining tables in your house ? or can you just have one larger dining table set ?

Layout 2 appeals to me due to the larger island, it almost makes me want to open the dining room, kitchen, and the hallway completely so you have a extremely spacious area for family gatherings and daily use as well.
