Help with my open living area

Just moved into this lovely townhouse. Struggling with furniture placement. Just purchased the sectional but need additional seating.

Can you return the sectional and exchange it for a 3-seat sofa and two armchairs? You're going to have a terrible time squeezing anything into the space with that huge sectional eating all the square footage.

If you’ve got the space, line up the long part of the sectional (archetypal space wasters) with the window edge. Place the end of the short part against the window wall. Move the white hall table to the window wall. Anchor the seating pieces with a large interesting rug. If you decide on full drapes, leave just enough space for them to hang to the floor.

Could you maybe exchange for a sectional with less sections? Pottery Barn and apt2b have apartment-size furniture. Then you’d have room to complete the look.

People don’t realize how much space these type sectionals take up and you don’t seat many people on them either. Would return, do a scale drawing of the space to evaluate what size pieces best fit the space. I can help you with scale drawing and sizes if you post measurements.

Thanks so much for the comments. Unfortunately the sectional cannot be returned but I could relocate it to our basement and start from scratch. White table is placed in another area so I would have an empty space to work with....love any thoughts :) Thanks!

I can work on the scale drawing but the general measurements are 25 ft x 16 ft.

Sectional seems perfect for a basement or lounge room, so that is ideal if you can move it. Will TV be in this room- next to fireplace? If so, I think a 3 seat sofa and 2 swivel chairs would be nice

A smaller scaled sofa and two swivel or stationary chairs.

This is tricky space to work with. Angles always present challenges. Long rooms usually are best divided into two sections. In your case, probably creating a TV viewing area and possibly a game table since you have more space. I am so happy you have another space for your sectional. I am sure it was an investment so great you have a better spot for it. I will watch for specific measurements so I can do a scale drawing for you. Bbl

If you can replace the sectional that may be the way to go, but wanted to offer an alternative...when we moved to our new house, we did not immediately buy new furniture, so this is what we did. We removeremoved the 2 part section to another room, this would be the part on the right of the picture posted. This opens up the sectional while still keeping the comfy chaise part that does not block as much. Then we added a chair to that side and it worked much better for us. In your set up, you can add the chair to the chaise side. Just something to think about if you dont want to start over.

lets try the cowhide rugs on the center point of room

A large interesting rug, art, and color will give the room some personality.
I prefer two sofas and a couple of chairs to a sectional and chairs. Color can be brought in with the rug, accents and window treatments. The chairs could also be done in color or a patterned fabric. (A cowhide rug is for a much smaller room.)
