Flooring question: WWYD?

August 22, 2019

We want to replace flooring in our house. It was built 10 years ago and still has builder’s grade carpet. Trust me, it is not in good shape.

I’ve drawn a rough (think elementary school) sketch of our first floor layout. Currently it’s a mix of builders carpet and hardwood. The hardwood is 1 1/2 inch skinny planks which i hate. They are not holding up to my dogs drippy beard, sun damage, etc.

I love the look of homes with one main type of flooring, where you’re eye is drawn across the home. That is my goal for the re-flooring project. So here are two options: What would you choose?

1- if we keep the hardwoods, we’d have them refinished but would need more layed in the rooms with prior carpeting to match.
2- LVP over current hardwoods, level up floors with current carpeting to lay LVP as well.

We plan to sell in 8-10 years.

Thanks Houzzers
