Paint it the same as the walls get a much bigger TV some art above the FP that mirror reflects nothing worth seeing twice make the ledge a bit deeper use it for the TV stuff and get rid of the box underneath.

Do you need that much rock wall? I'd consider removing a quarter of it at the left and bringing it back to drywall and hanging artwork. You can then center the TV with the rest of the rock wall.

If the photo is showing the true color of the rock wall, I would certainly have the wall painted the color of the other walls in that room. Add a long wood piece running along the small ledge (replacing what you have done to support the TV) and another matching wood piece maybe 18” above the fireplace opening to form a mantel. You may even consider using wood to frame the fireplace opening (leave at least 12” of stone around the entire opening to meet code requirements). Add a slab stone “hearth” on the floor in front of the fireplace. Remove the mirror and hang a piece of art over the mantel. Adding art and a few accessories will help to add interest and will minimize the two rectangular black holes (fireplace and TV). If you place a low console beneath the TV, don’t use a black one.

Thank you for your comments, would love to have a mantle over fireplace! stain or paint mantle and ledge? what do think of bookcase type below ledge?...working on art/color for remaining wall.

Agree with the paint comments above, but I'd also put in a fireplace surround that mimics the TV ledge. The firebox feels unfinished to me. Additionally, I'd get some large framed artwork to flank either side of the TV and replace the mirror with a larger one. Or, if this is a family room, you could do a really nice gallery wall with family photos. Just be mindful of the proportions of the things you're hanging vs. the wall itself. Get some graph paper to map out scaled options to see what works best.

That ledge looks silly. If you must do that, use a natural surface, like a raw 8x8 or something hefty that goes with the idea of a fireplace. And repeat that (maybe overlapping and staggered) above the fireplace as a mantel.

As it is, it looks like something made just to fit a TV on.

It would make far, far more sense to just mount the TV on the wall. Put a smaller shelf unit underneath it for the equipment and run the cables through the wall (if possible) or dressed neatly and covered in a conduit that blends with the wall and can be camouflaged by stuff on the top of the cabinet.

And, whatever you do, do not paint the stone! It will still be stone, it will obviously be stone, but the surface will be $10 worth of blah latex paint rather than being visually detailed.

Skip the shelf. Just get a proper media cabinet that's about as tall as the ledge and put it under the TV. I would get one with closed storage.

Hang art over the firebox and to the left of the TV.

    Not a Pro.

    I love the stone wall.

I like the ledge. I would hang the tv on the stone wall, a couple of inches up from the ledge. I would get rid of the console underneath and add art above the fireplace.

Then I would add some decorative items, maybe some vases in a color that relates to the room, on the shelf, maybe three in a group with. Keep it simple.

Custom built cabinets under the ledge, combination of drawers , doors and open shelving, full length with timber top and timber fireplace mantel, larger TV and large artwork or decorative wall sculpture.

Cracks me up that with all the design dilemmas out there over gigantic tv's that a solution could actually be a BIGGER tv!

I guess I am the only person who likes the wall and the ledge.
