Change the curtains to something neutral and the rest you will need to embrace BTW I use a red as neutral many times.

Thanks but I don't think we will be permitted to change the curtains because its a short term rental.

Put up the curtains you prefer, and before you leave the space, put up the old ones you don't prefer. You could probably change them out and your landlord would be fine with it. Just don't discard the old ones.

I would add aqua or blue.

I would choose to embrace the happy colors, which instantly called to my mind tulips in Holland! What a lovely experience this will be for you!
