My guess would be that they are okay if the water was not frozen solid.

If they are mushy they were frozen and then thawed. If so, throw them out. I really can't see that freezing them would really hurt them. Mine stay in the ground year round at the of max 6 inches deep and our temperature is below freezing most of the winter. Our frost line is 3 ft deep. They come up every spring fine.

Tulips grow in the ground in areas where it snows, so I wouldn't worry. We had them in Chicago where I grew up. Don't plant them now. Wait until December.

There is a big difference between bulbs in the refrigerator being exposed to freezing tenperatures and the same bulbs in the ground. For one thing, the soil - even frozen soil - acts as an insulator and protects the bulbs from extremes. There is also a limit how cold frozen soil will actually will get - typically only around 29-31F. Refrigerator freezers are kept at 0F.

If the bulbs become mushy, they are toast. They need to be firm and solid when you plant. And you should also be aware that if kept in your regular kitchen refrigerator, various other produce, especially fruit, can produce ethane gasses that will cause an abortion of any flowers. The bulbs will grow but will not bloom.

Thank you very much. I will plant them regardless. They do not appear to be mushy, so here is hoping for the best. I will be planting them in the ground around mid November as I want to keep them in the fridge for at least 10 weeks. I will make sure to update next Spring. Thank you again.

A refrigerator will not get down to 0°F, but things in the back could get slightly below 32° F. if you have it set very low. The OP said they were in the refrigerator.
