Weird raised rough patch on new wood table

I have only had this table for a few months and now there is a weird raised rough patch. I have no idea how it got there or how to fix it. Any ideas?

To me it looks like the marks left by the backing of a mat or pad that was sitting on the table. Did you leave anything on the table?

Agreed, If you put a hot dish or coffee cup on top of a placement the heat can soften the underlying topcoat (usually lacquer) and allow that placement to imprint. If you can feel the bumps with your finger, that's probably the issue. Hot items need to go on elevated hot plates or saucers, etc. Placements won't protect the table from heat damage.

The fix is to apply several coats of sanding sealer, and sand it down between coats. Then you re-spray the entire table top with clear when you have the imprint leveled out. If you've never done this before, get a pro to do it so your final topcoat is even and has a consistent sheen.
