OT flowering plant suggestion needed

This is OT, and I posted under fragrant plants and texas gardening, but inspired by the thread about flowers you wish you could grow, wanted to see if you all had any suggestions for me.
I need suggestions for a low, rounded evergreen with hopefully fragrant flowers to replace my soon to be late radicans gardenias. They were planted last year and were doing so well until 10 days ago. No change in anything I did, just a lot of rain. Anyways, they are dying and I need to find something to replace them with that can tolerate part shade, lots of rain.
This is my thread on the other topic forums: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5776323/need-suggestions-for-part-shade#n=4
Thanks for your help.
