They've been installing 36” for maybe 10 years - first became aware during hotel stays.

We didn’t want 36 in our update because that’s too tall for our comfort. Had a cabinet maker built our design to 34” too-of-counter. Glad we took control on our behalf.

We love the taller vanity. We had ours built at that height 25 years ago when we had our house built. It is much easier on the back for us. DH is 6' & I am 5'5".

My wife is 4’11”, so that size seems a bit tall.

I much prefer the taller vanities and I'm not tall. Bending over a short vanity is also harder on anyone that has suffered from any lower back problems. I think most of my bathrooms vanities are at 35- 1/4" to top of counter.

Kitchen counters are at 36- 1/4"

The guy who built our bathroom vanities suggested making them kitchen counter height, saying that was what most people were doing (12 years ago?), and taller overall would also allow for more storage space.

No regrets at all. In fact, I hate the lower height vanity in the bathroom we use when visiting my parents. Killer on the back leaning down to use the sink.

Probably the same time they made the toilets taller. I'm tall and can deal with a shorter vanity, but those short toilets that you still sometimes come across are a killer.

In talking to our contractor about redoing our bathroom we were given a choice on kitchen size vanities or regular bathroom size. If you look around you can surly find shorter vanities if you want them.

Most cabinet manufacturers still make 30 1/2" and 34 1/2" vanity's, in the old days when you order a vanity they would automatically come 30 1/2" unless specified otherwise.

Today you have to specify if you want a 30 1/2" vanity because 34 1/2" became the new standard.

Manufacturers make both standard heights. The shorter ones just aren’t stocked on shelves, because they aren’t popular. People genuinely prefer the tall ones. Go to a cabinet store where they can order the short ones. Or have a local custom person create whatever height you find comfortable.

Are you sure you don't want a taller vanity?

I recently remodeled and my short vanity was replaced by a taller one. I am on the short side - about 5' 3" and really love it although it took a week or so to get used to the new height.

I can't think of anything I can do with the higher height and washing my face is way easier and less messy because there I can be more or less upright when rinsing my face with my hands.

What do you envision doing that is more difficult with a higher height vanity? As others have pointed out, it's more or less than same height as a kitchen counter.

Those with the higher vanity height, what depth are they coming in? Kitchen depth or standard bathroom depth?

They come in standard 21" and 18" some manufacturers make 16" and some charge extra for that size.

I am so confused. We put vessel sinks on top of our 1969 vanities. Very comfortable height. Now here we are, 10 years later, building from the ground up. 36” high vanities with vessel sinks are ridicuoulous !
