In general, the way to increase light in a room is to keep the wall, ceiling, and floor color light, use reflective surfaces, and in my opinion, one can never have to much light in a room! The optimum lighting is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. Stick to warmer colors rather than cool. (Warm: off-white, light beige, peach, light golden yellow) (Cool: bright white, light taupe, light bright yellow) Pick wall art that you love - get from local artist or art.com.

I hate going back and forth to links too. IMO a bedroom is probably the only room in a house that does not require huge amounts on natural light. Get a nice light fixture with at least 5 bulbs in LEDs 4000K range that will give you overall lighting then some good lamps for reading on night tables and if you are going to put a chair in the space another lamp either floor or on a table . The warmer the LED bulbs the more yellow everything looks stick to daylight bulbs .As for wall color that is usually chosen to go with bedding. I have no idea of your style but I honestly love gray bedrooms they are restful and can look very elegant This is one of my favorites. This type of light would work the one that is hard to see is called autumn I use it quite often for bedrooms
