Scalp mow the dead grass and bag the clippings. The seed just needs to make contact with the soil.

you don’t think I can wait? I might be able to sneak it in this weekend but itll be tough. the warmth has extended well into the fall for the last couple years so I think we’re still two months out from a frost.

My experience has been take advantage of the weather now. Last year, it was in the upper 80's through September here in NJ and the 2nd week of October, we got a couple of days of nighttime 30's....killed any overseed I did in mid September.....

core aerate heavily and spread seed. I would also do it now. I reseeded a few areas and they are doing great with minimal irrigation.... mainly just rain.

If I core aerate heavily, do i need to bag the clippings on my last mow? Also, I’m sure this is a dumb question, but I want to clear the cores off he lawn before seeding, correct?

do not touch the cores. mulch mow as normal. start to bring down cut height gradually.

me personally, i'd core aerate, spread seed then start to bring cut height down over the course of a week.

yes. i continue to mow, carefully, even after germination.

however, plenty of ways to do things
