That sofa is gorgeous but seems stuck in there - too big for there. Can you float it in front of the windows with a new baby blue chair? No ottoman. Nobody really wants to sit on those except a dog. Take away the fireplace clutter and lower the picture above.

Thank you for your input! I definitely felt like I was pushing the grey until I unexpectedly bought this color sofa! AND the ottoman was never intended to stay, but since it was there for now it definitely showed even more of the disaster! Love all your ideas!

Please frame your map and lower it. I also think a rectangular rug would be more appropriate here, placed at the same angle as the fireplace.

The round rug is perfect in this setting, what with your fireplace at an angle. I agree about lowering and framing the map, and I love the blue of the chair that groveraxle found for you with your sofa and with your rug.

If you want a lower-budget suggestion, slipcover your ottoman with a fabric in the same color as the solid pillows. Google has how-to's if you are handy, or a seamstress should be able to do this fairly simply. A subtle pattern or solid would look good. If you have fabric left over, make another cushion or two in the ottoman fabric.

Then repeat the blue color in a blue ribbon trim, maybe grosgrain, to trim your very plain curtains and bring them easily into the color scheme. Fabri-Tac glue works even easier than iron-on tape.

Keep your wing chair, it looks fine with the blue scheme but it needs a blue pillow or throw.

Rug with neutrals to me is worth looking into. If square - could edge be parallel with floor tile? and still look good on other side? In other words, I think the rug is 'off'....

The room looks to be very casual to me...looking at the fireplace and the size of the room it seems more casual and intimate.

babophz! i will. both def things that were just put there for now. Do you think I really need two chairs? this is a TINY space. I should not for everything that I I live in a small DC row house. And i have three kids under 4 (I ain't livin' in the suburbs) which may explain why this is too casual. Perhaps I should call this a "family" room to help since we only have one room for living! ;) Gave away the yucky brown ottoman today!

I see the sofa ok below your pic, partly cause it lets the window/curtains breathe. You know which works. Fp stone and log set seems fine, casual. They say to use easy tape to mark sizes of rug options [on the floor]… wondering if large enough square? or oval winging away from hearth part [parallel with windows].

wow! thank you all! The room is def having an identity crisis since we have a ginormous tv facing the sofa, but I don't even want it there. There's literally no other place to put it. Darn tiny house living. Maybe I need to talk to my husband about this since we aren't even watching much tv in this room since It's not supposed to be a tv room. and place the sofa against the window wall like you suggest. thanks again!

If you show us the entire space with the TV..we can help you out..seems the wall where the map is would be a better spot for the TV.

Being a city dweller myself, I feel your pain ;-) But seriously, smaller houses can work really well with good spacial planning and properly sized furniture. More pics and a floor plan would come in handy.
